I’m left wondering why you dug up a thread from 7 years ago which over two days seemed to generate nothing interesting. At least, not after two pages, at which point I gave up. It seems some football fans have exchanged words with Portslade players over the years. I’ve got nothing to add, particularly as I played most of my cricket in London and Kent. My experiences of Portslade are centred around getting my car serviced at the car dealership there while I’m watching cricket at Hove as I hate my local dealership. It’s hardly a topic for discussion though but car dealerships in Portslade is a topic that I can find no mention of on northstandchat despite scouring their forum.

Wonders will never cease. Ray was legend on the cricket circuit. Everybody's got a story to tell except on this board it seems. My son, no shrinking violet, didn't start playing until Ray gave up and started umpiring. Unsurprisingly there was a contra temps when he was bowling and a plum lbw (in his eyes) wasnt given.

More wonderment than a bite. I suspect everyone having a story to tell about Ray is stretching it a bit far, but, as I have said a million times before, some people do exaggerate.

I was thinking of contributing to this thread - - but find I have nothing useful to say. Should this deter me?

Although that link raised the question, which wasn't answered on the website, Why is Littlehampton Cricket Club abbreviation LCPCC?

Although that link raised the question, which wasn't answered on the website, Why is Littlehampton Cricket Club abbreviation LCPCC? According to Google, the full name is The Littlehampton, Clapham and Patching Cricket Club. Who'd have thought it?

Older brother.
Famous sledging between Jimmy Ormonde and Mark Waugh.
MW said to Jimmy, you are good enough to play for England. Jimmy, I may not be, but at least I am the best cricketer in my family.
This is the printable version !

There's a certain symmetry between the Cowdrey family and Wells's with 2 professional playing brothers and a non playing 3rd brother although Jeremy Cowdrey is the middle brother. There is also a son each from one of the brothers who played county cricket. The only difference is that Bill Wells, father of Ray, Colin and Alan was a titan of the game whereas Cowdrey senior only touched the surface.
No trio of brothers could touch the greatness of the aforementioned Chappells although Paddles and his 2 older siblings come closest. In fact when you factor in their father Walter, they collectively beat the Chappells. Strangely,as far as I'm aware, there don't seem any descendants from the Chappell's and Hadlee's who have taken up the game professionally.
