It’s resurgent Leics v slumping Sussex. On the face of it, there’s only one winner but where there’s life, there’s hope and there is some good news in the squad announcement: Alsop, Carson, Carter (wk), Clark, Coles, Crocombe, Haines, Hudson-Prentice, Hunt, Ibrahim, Jaydev, Karvelas, Orr, Pujara (c)
So Orr is finally back and Jaydev is fit to play. Assume Orr will replace Clark and maybe Hunt will replace Crocombe. We really ought to be competitive if we can find a bit of self-belief.

Hunt will replace Crocombe. Why?
Crocombe 18 wickets @ 32
Hunt 5 wickets @ 68
Selecting Crocombe over Hunt is an absolute no brainer.

I’d have said the same before the 50 over competition when Hunt was the better of the two … and Crocombe struggled in the Durham game until his late haul of wickets. Those late wickets might be enough to keep Crocombe in the team though.

(Is it safe to come out? Has he gone?)
I don’t think Orr or Jaydev will play (I hope I’m wrong) Hunt will come in for Jaydev otherwise it’s the same team.

Yes I do hope you’re wrong because if the club have put unfit/unready players in the squad, possibly in a bid to attract more spectators, it would be another item in the debit column.

Neither has been tearing up trees but you’re probably right to assume that Crocombe will play. By the way if a hopelessly out of form England rugby union team can go down to 14 men after a few minutes and still beat Argentina 27-10 then we shouldn’t lose hope in a Sussex revival!

Unchanged side, no Orr but Jaydev plays.
Lost the toss and have been inserted.

I really do hope your wrong and that all those named are fit and available for selection. On that basis Orr for Clark is a no brainer. Crocombe has probably kept his place with his late wickets against Durham. Personally, others I suspect may hold a different view, but despite their figures I feel there is little to choose between him or Hunt. Basically, because neither are likely to run through the opposition's batting (wait for me to be proved wrong when Crocombe gets a career best). I would like to see Ibrahim given a go. Bowled well in the latter stages of the One Day Cup, just as likely to take wickets as the other two, won't leak as many runs and will strengthen the batting that arguably has a tail that starts at nine. Of course if our missing England bowler and our injury prone franchise all rounder were available, a lot of the above would be a mute point. Hope to be there this afternoon for another visit to the home of cricket 🏏.

A wicket apiece for the aforementioned Wright and Currie, 2 down in the 10th over with both openers gone.
64/2

Could we not have had Taylor and Lamb as loan signings?

Absolutely pathetic. All top six batsmen get a start but fail to even reach 50. Time to put our players on performance related contracts.
