Unchanged side, no Orr but Jaydev plays. Lost the toss and have been inserted. Unchanged side and so far, an unchanged performance. Feels like the end of the season can’t come quick enough. This comment of mine from yesterday may need a bit of rethinking!

Remarkable session!
Sadly the fan in me has allowed me to dream we can win all 3 game left and go up!

I felt a different vibe about Sussex when they came out to bowl yesterday, I think in having Undakat the team feel they have a strike bowler of sorts, and that has taken the pressure off the others and at the same time encouraged them to up their game.
I’d make Karvelas captain btw, there is something about him, a spark.

A dreadful interview from Filby on commentary. Came across very defensive and aggressive with Harms when challenged. Very poor.

A dreadful interview from Filby on commentary. Came across very defensive and aggressive with Harms when challenged. Very poor. Utter utter nonsense. we are compeltely blessed to have a Chairman who would take the time to answer all questions openly and honestly. I thought it was outstanding, hes carified everything whether you agree with it or not hes done it.

Utter utter nonsense. we are compeltely blessed to have a Chairman who would take the time to answer all questions openly and honestly. I thought it was outstanding, hes carified everything whether you agree with it or not hes done it. We'll have to agree to disagree. I thought he was very aggressive towards one email in particular which asked if some of the youngsters may not be up to the level required. He constantly used 'we'. 'We do this', 'we believe in that' etc. But when this email came in and Harms asked him about the cricket decision making, he was more than happy to pass the buck onto the cricket committee lead by Ian Gould rather than acknowledge some of the mistakes that had been made in the past. Questions inevitably came in about finances and Filby insisted that we are in a healthy financial position. He was then asked if some of that money could be used on the playing squad to which he replied that the cricket budget will be cut for next season and that the club will make losses this year. So which is it Jon? He is also in the dark on the Robinson issue. Says that there is an offer on the table but only for a year. Seemed very quick to try to move the conversation on. He went on to compare Sean Hunt to James Kirtley. When asked about the director of cricket position by Harms, he was adamant that a Director Of Cricket was not required at Sussex. Yet he was more than happy to accommodate a DOC with Keith Greenfield for the first 2 seasons of his tenure as Chairman. Of course, it is commendable that a county chairman will speak live to an audience and is willing to answer questions. However his answers and his arrogance and lack of willingness to hold himself accountable for the failings in the past few seasons was lamentable and not the sort of conduct I'd expect from a Chairman. It was the biggest car crash interview conducted on the BBC since Emily Matlis sat down with Prince Andrew.

Jon Filby comes across as a supporter of Sussex Cricket through and through. We are very lucky to have him. ps. What a wonderful morning’s cricket.

If you believe that asking people not to overly criticise 18 year old lads is aggressive there lies the issue!

It was a strange response re Robinson future. First time he was asked - “he is not in our control”……which i thought was nonsense, as centrally-contracted players still have deals with their counties. When asked the second time, there’s talk of a year extension on the table.
Re criticism of younger players. Filby himself asked emailers to name names of young players they didn’t think were up to it. This was a pretty bizarre challenge imo. And then he played the “what sort of person would criticise a teenager” card later on.
There is a fine line between not putting the boot in on a young developing player doing their best and also acknowledging that Sussex is a historic professional competitive organisation, with paid entry.
Overall the interview was strange in places but no car crash.

Yes. you are right (about England and county contracts ). But Filby didn’t say that, at first. He implied there was nothing about Robinson’s future that was in the club’s hands. Which is nonsense. Robinson could go to another county (if another county wants him), or stay at Sussex (if we want him). Having Robinson for a few games could be the difference between getting promoted or not.

He clearly said there was a contract waiting for Ollie to sign.

He clearly said there was a contract waiting for Ollie to sign. Yep. You’re right again. He did. Although only when the subject was raised the second time. See my original post.

250 lead, now in complete control. Bat them in to submission boys! Hopefully a lead of 388 puts the game out of reach. I expect we’ll bat on tomorrow but there’s likely to be rain about for the next two days so we shouldn’t overdo it.
