Can anyone confirm that Joyce will miss the four day game v Warwicks at Horsham next month, the T20 game v Essex at Chelmsford and Sussex's opening game in the new 50 over competition, due to a series of one day games Ireland are playing v Sri Lanka A in Belfast and Coleraine?
There are also a brace of games between Scotland and Ireland in September, which looks as though Joyce and Machan will miss what could be a must-win LVCC game v Lancashire.

Bruce Talbot must be feeling a bit desperate for BBC website material if he sends this piece in for publication. Surely, a non-story? We know Ed has a dodgy hip. The World Cup begins in February and any player with a physical vulnerability is in danger of it being aggravated. Meanwhile, Sussex need to end their roller coaster ride pattern of starting off very well, collapsing in the middle of the season, and then rediscovering their form again when it's too late to muster a Championship challenge. Find consistency through that middle part and Sussex have a chance. Yet, thanks to Bruce, Sussex CCC are part of the UK cricket news today, so that's the important thing. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/cricket/30637635

A journalist filing a story just to keep the pot boiling? Whatever are you suggesting, s and f? Will your next story be about the secret religious inclinations of the Pope, or a nice outdoorsy piece about bears being seen wandering off with a copy of the Mirror in their paws every morning at the same time?

All the story does is highlight that Ed is very old for a modern-day cricketer (possibly the oldest in the world cup, as Chanderpaul is not in the Windies squad?), has an injury problem ( was it widely known that "he's got to manage his hip"?) and will set folks wondering if 2015 will be Ed's last season, given that we are reminded he will turn 38 next year...
All in all, a story full of negative connotations, although I'm sure that wasn't the intention.
Meanwhile, Robinson has presided over an abortion of a cricket match with the Lions in Soweto, with four 'substitutes' batting and bowling in the second innings, and one of those substitutes, poor Sam Billings, being forced to retire on 53 while Captain Trott - who was on 67 when his partner was retired and unlike Billings had also batted in the first innings - batted on with the supreme disregard for everything but his own performance for which he is (in)famous.
