James Harris apparently available for loan Signed a new contract last year but seems to have lost his way a little this season and would benefit from going out on loan. I'd take him if there was any chance we could secure him in the winter. We need to bring the average age of our seamers down and at just 24, this guy would have plenty of years left. A change of county might do him good so maybe if we have anyone in the same boat, a swap could be mooted

He had no great pace and little lateral movement on a pitch where Lewis cleaned up and Finn restated his credentials as a world class fast bowler.

He does have the ability to swing the ball both ways and is young enough to get back on track. Quite honestly, there were times in recent years where Chris Jordan seemed to be going nowhere fast, and look what a change of county did for him. We have 4 seamers, Magoffin, Lewis, Liddle and Anyon, who are all the wrong side of thirty and with only Jordan, Hatchett and Hobden as relative youngsters, the balance is wrong. I would imagine we will be looking to bring in a couple of younger seamers, and if Harris might be available, we should consider him.

Vastly over rated. But, worth a punt if he has no ego. I suspect he might. That could be a problem. Sussex need more young players.
Seems Middx are having a clear out? Rossington to Norhants, now Harris. Who's next?

Middx won't loan Harris to any of the other five Div One counties still competing with them to win the championship. But as they probably regard Sussex in the same also-ran bracket as Northants, I suspect they would be perfectly content for us to take him. In fact, they'd love it if he could do them a favour by inflicting some serious damage in a Sussex shirt against Warwicks, Yorks and Notts!

Short term he probably isn't the answer, his below par bowling figures this season do nothing to suggest he could be our saviour. If we could prize him away in the winter, that would be different. Undoubtably he has the quality to be a very good bowler at this level so maybe we could do what we did with CJ, and rejuvenate his flagging career. If having him on loan this season gives us the sort of advantage Hants had with Coles when he decided to leave Kent, it might be worth doing. Only Magoffin of our ageing seam attack has maintained any consistency, and are Lewis, Liddle and Anyon going to get any better? We have to look to the future and in Hatchett and Hobden we have promise, but we will need to replace at least a couple of the veterans soon. This will mean looking outside, at least until something emerges from the academy.

Great shout, Harris would be an outstanding signing - think we, and everyone, chased him before? He's young, proven and a little lost - it seems. Perfect for Sussex, can bat too, snap him up.

Browning, Fazakerley, Garton, Grant, Hudson-Prentice, Moses, Piper, Twine and Whittingham have all appeared for the development XI. Keats and Sakande have yet to play a game this season. Of these eleven 17 year old left arm seamer George Garton and 18 year old all-rounder Fynn Hudson-Prentice are the pick of the bunch. Here are their development XI records this season: Garton 5-81 with a best of 5-40 Hudson-Prentice 3-62 with a best of 3-62 Moses 3-90 with a best of 2-46 Piper 1-83 with a best of 1-26 Twine 0-17 with a best of 0-17 Fazakerley 0-20 with a best of 0-20 Whittingham 0-33 with a best of 0-33 Grant 0-36 with a best of 0-16 Browning 0-37 with a best of 0-14 Between them Piper, Twine, Fazakerley, Whittingham, Grant and Browning have combined figures of 1-226! Sam Grant, Tim Moses, Abidine Sakande and Stuart Whittingham have graduated from the Academy in the past two years but none of them look like making the grade on the evidence of their performances this year for Loughborough / Oxford UCCE, 2XI or club cricket. I agree Lewis and Liddle will need replacing with younger alternatives.
