With Kent still not having offered him a contract for next season (the Kent committee is reportedly meeting this week to discuss), Beckenham was buzzing today with stories that Sussex have offered Darren Stevens a two year playing deal.
Leics - where he started his career - also want him back and are allegedly offering him a four year contract, two years playing and then two coaching.
A third county currently in Div Two has also made an approach (think it may be Northants).
Huge credit to him that at 40 years old he is in such demand ...
If I was in his shoes I'd go with Leics. The county is on the up (despite their defeat to Sussex today), such a move would take him back to his Midlands roots and, most importantly of all at his age, it would secure his post-playing career. Dobell would no doubt criticise such a move, as he has done Leicestershire's other mature signings. But I dare say Stevo won't care about that...

Do we know what the toss regulations are going to be next year before we jump into a signing like this?

I have removed the question mark I originally put at the end of the title of this thread and amended accordingly, as it has now been confirmed in local Kent media that the Sussex offer to Stevens is a two year deal to play white ball cricket with a pay-as-you-play option in the CC.

Given those options I would expect him to re-sign for Leicestershire. Two year coaching offer effectively four years of continuous employment.

Apparently he's signed a new deal with Kent and is being given a benefit year.

Can't wait to see who these gems are that we've lined up. At least with Stevens, he was proven, and we didn't have anyone quite like him, so as a short term signing, he was ideal.

Apparently he's signed a new deal with Kent and is being given a benefit year. No, he's just had his benefit year! But he "will be back for a 13th season in 2017", according to Kent CCC twitter so it sounds like it is only a one year deal and he has lost the battle he fought all summer holding out for a two year deal. Sussex reportedly offered two years, but that was offset by the pay-as-you-play element in the CC. Should have offered him a srtraightforward two year all-formats deal on full salary and I'm sure he would have signed. Will Sussex now move for Wes Durston?

Unlike Stevens, who seems to have got better with age, the same cannot be said for Durston. Reading the comments from Derbyshire supporters, most seem to think that he hadn't done enough to warrant another contract.

I'm a bit bewildered by our attempts to bring in yet more seamers. Davo says we are looking to bring in an all rounder, someone who would balance the side, in the way they Robin Martin-Jenkins used to. As someone who was championing signing an all rounder for the last couple of years, I find it slightly odd that it's now a priority. Fair enough, if it was someone of real quality, Rikki Clarke, for instance, or a decent overseas, like James Faulkner, then yes, that might make sense. We have an impressive array of fast bowlers now, many who have aspirations to bat. It's not now a pressing need, and the money would be better spent adding some quality to the batting. We might be about to lose the one class act we have in the batting department, and it's imperative that he is replaced with an opener of similar stature. Eight seamers should be enough, although five of them are relatively inexperienced, we have to be careful we don't block their opportunities.

I think we need an overseas batsman (opener if Joyce retires).
