East Grinstead CC are having a wonderful season under skipper Will Adkin. The Saint Hill club are top of the Sussex Premier League and after a wonderful home performance on Sunday find themselves in the ECB Club Cup semi final.
Saint Hill was bathed in sunshine for the visit of Bath CC in the 45 over quarter final. The hosts batted and it was the skipper Adkins who led the way with a very important knock of 86. His opening partner Brad Hatchett was also in good form making 49 before being trapped LBW. Ollie Graham 35 and Ian Sturmer 23 continued momentum as East Grinstead posted a total of 221 for 7.
Bath might of been confident of chasing that down but Lewis Hatchett made their job very difficult from the start. Both openers fell cheaply to Hatchett caught behind by keeper Matt Heppell. Sturmer then produced a stunning caught and bowled reducing Bath to 21 for 3. Seb Benton (27) and Paul Muchall (32) then set about repairing the damage. With the match getting tight Lee Granger found the edge of Luke Padgetts bat and it was that man Heppell who took a brilliant catch. That broke Bath resistance who were soon all out for 177.
East Grinstead go marching on into the Semi Final against Wanstead at home on 27th August 2017. Man of the match Will Adkin said after the game ' its been a wonderful week end for the club especially after winning in the league yesterday . I am very proud of the lads We can now look forward to the semi final'
This result is massive in terms of sport here in Sussex. The ECB is a prestigious National Competition so making the semi final is very special indeed. We wish EG all the best in the next round.

It's not really surprising they've got this far, the team is packed with ex pros and academy boys. Good luck to them.

Promising Saint Hill Season has no Fairy Tale Finish If you had offered East Grinstead CC the Sussex Premier League title and a Royal London Cup semi final place in April I am sure they would have been delighted. That is what happened this week end under glorious sunny weather and with a big crowd watching on. As they celebrate a wonderful achievement this evening perhaps there might be a few feeling's of what if's knocking about. The Semi Final against Wanstead and Snaresbrook was a brilliant advert for cricket but it was the visitors who just found a little extra. EG skipper Will Adkin lead the way with two spectacular catches, the 2nd of which took Adnan Akram who was looking very dangerous on 48 runs. Adkins full length dive left had the crowd on its feet and the visitors wobbling on 135 for 5, At that stage the Mid Sussex side had all the momentum with Ollie Graham clinging onto a fierce drive as Fynn Hudson Prentice took 4 wickets. However the fielding just went off the boil late on as Jonathon Das made a very quick 26 runs, The visitors seemed quite happy with 202 all out. The damage was done early in the reply as the Essex men came our all guns blazing. With them making 4 great catches and slowing the pace EG found things very tough. Indeed at 66 for 6 it was game over even though Toby Margetts and Lewis Hatchet made the visitors work for a 43 run victory. Adkin said after the game ' its disappointing to have gone out today but overall we are very pleased with how the season has panned out. Its the first time EG have won the Sussex Premier League so that's very encouraging for the future. We shall be having a quite beer to celebrate tonight. I think we have beaten by the better team on the day, they bowled and fielded very tightly. We send Wanstead all our best wishes for the final, I hope they go and win it !' East Grinstead CC have produced a season that Mid Sussex Sport can be very proud of and behind the scenes the club have put on an excellent show in terms of facilities and fan base amenities. The cake stand was a winners as was the fast food and out door bar. All in all the #grinarmy have done themselves proud. Good Luck Next Season !
