More likely to be that it’s his first breakthrough year (albeit a brilliant one) he will have more of a chance of higher honours if he shows consistency next season. I bet he would have been selected had he played for Lancashire, Surrey, Warwickshire or Yorkshire. To be the top run scorer in the country and not even get selected for the Lions is a disgrace. I don't expect any less with muppets as England selectors.

I don't think rushing batsmen to a higher level often works. The worse thing that can happen is that he stops scoring runs for Sussex while being called upon at a higher level. With the non-stop circus of England games, it is hard enough for experienced England batsmen to get time at the crease when runs aren't flowing at England level. I hope he gets another season at Sussex scoring runs.

It is just goes to show if you play for one of the bigger counties it is much easier to get international recognition.

And, don’t forget, we are the worst county in many eyes, but look at the number of players England have called upon from our side in the last 2-3 years - Archer, Robinson, Jordan, Garton, Salt. At Under 19, Rawlins, Lenham, Ibrahim - I expect ive forgotten someone…..

Jamie Smith is a more dynamic, athletic multi-format batter, you can understand why he’d catch your eye over Haines if you’re a selector. He’s also a wicketkeeper. Haines will get there if he keeps scoring numbers which can’t be ignored.

Oh shut up Ash, if he played in a better side, he's in. In fact, everybody shut up.

I reckon he'll get a Hundred gig. He's never played any T20, according to CricInfo.
