Duckett? He won't swap one second division county for another you're living in cloud cuckoo land if you think he will with Surrey looking to replace Sangakkara and Notts looking for three new batsmen following the loss of Lumb, Smith and Taylor. Van Zyl will play ahead of Finch. I suspect Jordan and Wiese will play ahead of Garton and Whittingham and that Briggs will continue to be selected by the unimaginative Sussex coaching setup. I may be living in cloud cuckoo land but at least I'm not good looking.
We can match anyone for cash if we lose the rest of the deadwood. RA needs to make sure our new set-up focuses on graduates and quality outsiders only. We can produce our own average players and a few very good ones to boot. That is the cheapest and most satisfying way forward. We need to try and lose four more contracted players early, sign two quality outsiders and supplement the rest of the squad with 4/5 more grads. They are there, use them.
We've proceeded one way, look where we are. Go the other way.
So far this has been the most positive pre season in years. More ruthlessness needed though. I'm excited to see what coaching set-up and squad we have come April. I'm getting well on board with a Adams, Prior, Lewis combo personally.
Yep, all imports should be of a quality we don’t yet produce That level of player, allied to a decent production line, which we now seem to have, is totally the way forward That way, we stay competitive If you introduce the youngsters into a team of journeymen, they have no one to aspire to, and will likely develop a losing mentality Or if they are any good, they’ll get fed up and leave

Season's drawing close - six weeks I reckon. How big is our squad? Do we still need more numbers? I think we need another seamer or two as cover, don't we? What do we know of our starting eleven. Our finance fortune teller's made a balls-up and we've got money to burn, but on what? Can anyone say with any confidence who is gonna open? Or bat at three? It's all a bit quiet, unless I've missed something from my Igloo.
Wells Salt? Van Zyl? Finch? Wright Brown Burgess? Robinson Garton? Whittingham? Ishant
Question marks are for either selection or position - I'm not sure any of this top three wanna bat here. If we don't play any of those seamers, who's in? Wiese? Sakande? What else?
Everything seems undercooked and disorganised to me. Like Andrew, like Dizzy, like youth promotion, but where the *** hell we at?

I take your point liquidskin. It does look thin on paper, particularly if one or two of those have injuries. Given that Archer and Jordan are out of the side for the first 5 CC games, the seam bowling still looks pretty good to me, especially if Robinson can start the season well. The batting is the big worry if there are no recruits. Whether Salt, Finch, Burgess or Evans can make the step up and make regular contributions of over 50 is the unknown. Younger players sometimes do suddenly make a step up after an indifferent season. I guess that will be the key. Even though Nash had a relatively poor CC season last year, I think he has left a hole.

A massive hole yes, carried us in the T20, and let’s not forget, he was pretty much our best batsman in the championship in 2016 You just know that come the end of April, we’ll probably be missing at least half a dozen of our squad, for one reason or another We’ve had that sort of crisis, in each of our last three seasons, and I don’t expect things to be any different this time around

Starting with Jofra who I see has returned from the PSL with a side strain!

Am I alone in worrying that the current squad looks too thin to mount a serious chance of winning promotion in the County Championship this season? We might recover when Archer and Jordan return from the IPL, but we will have played 5 of the 14 games by then. Perhaps, a new recruit is about to be announced.

Current squad does not have the quality, end of story.

No, it’s very concerning, especially the batting, which can only be weaker than last season.

I doubt we are signing any new batsman before the start of the season. I believe that Finch may also be on crutches...
So our starting eleven may be something like
Wells, salt, van zyl,Wright, rawlins, Burgess, Brown, Weise,Robinson,Garton,Ishant.

Pretty much, yeah Certainly doesn't look much like a side that will be challenging for promotion Not sure about the idea of playing Brown and Burgess It's an experiment worth trying in the pre season games I suppose, but come the first game, it either or, for me Currently out in SA, I believe Burgess is playing as a batsman He can bat, there's no doubt about that, but most observers have said he's also the better keeper I hope we don't fudge it, the best man for the job should take the gloves Also, whoever isn't keeping, I believe, if they want to be considered as a top order batsmen, then they should give up any thoughts of keeping, and concentrate on learning their new trade

It should be clear you're not alone given your response to an earlier post. I'd like to know what our actual playing squad is exactly. Anybody know it?

If so, I think we should start with him. He's probably even better without them.
