An interesting move. Kent CEO Jamie Clifford has been appointed MCC Assistant Secretary (Membership and Operations). www.lords.org/news/2017/november/jamie-clifford-appointed-mcc-assistant-secretaryHe "...will supervise the management of a number of departments and will act as Secretary to the Membership and General Purposes committee and the Nominations Group. He will organise all General Meetings, together with producing the Annual Report & Accounts and will review the Rules, Regulations, policies and procedures of MCC. He will liaise with ECB and ICC match managers concerning the administrative and operational arrangements of major matches at Lord’s, together with being responsible for working with Middlesex CCC for county match days." It sounds like an admin job but surely there must be something more about it that is attractive to a strong marketer as Clifford has shown himself to be. Perhaps he sees it as a jumping-off point for another kind of cricket power-broking. Interested to hear what Kent supporters, who know him better think of this?

There was some talk that Jamie might be moving on earlier this season, and it was mentioned in a club members' forum, and he laughed it off. Perhaps it was known in some circles then - but there was certainly no mention of the MCC as far as I know.
The fact that Ben Green was promoted straight away to replace him may also be evidence that some forward planning had taken place as, when he was appointed 'Operations Director' in August, he seemed over qualified.

Kent are on their second new boss since Jamie Clifford left but this didn't feel worth starting a new thread about. Anyway, has anyone seen anything of our new Chief Executive, Simon Storey? His replacement at Derbyshire took up his post on 1st January, and he's already visible on their Twitter page and main website.
cricket.derbyshireccc.com/staff/ryan-duckett/Contrast that with Kent's new man. He was supposed to be at his desk on 2nd January, and I dare say he was. There's just a distinct absence of hoop-la about his arrival. The club did say they wouldn't be commenting any further (i.e., at all) on the sudden and mysterious departure of the previous Chief Executive, Ben Green. But I suppose I was sort of expecting them to have something to say about his successor once he'd officially joined the club. The website carried an interview with Ben Green on his third day in the job. Whereas: Mr Storey isn't even listed among the club's executive officers, two weeks into his tenure. www.kentcricket.co.uk/the-club/staff/Admittedly Kent have never been the most communicative of county clubs, but Simon Storey's personal Linkedin and Twitter pages still show him as being Derbyshire's CEO. I'm sure there's nothing to it, but it's just slightly intriguing.

Ben Green was only 'Interim Chief Executive', of course, but I agree Simon Storey's low profile is strange. Maybe a major 'launch' is planned...🤔

Beauty competition... Kent v Sussex... who wins? Karl Smith v Daniel Oliver is close, so is Andy Griffiths v Bob Warren.

I was probably being a bit excitable there. Understandable, I hope. There seemed to have been some moody goings-on at the club late last year. Ben Green's job title only acquired its 'interim' prefix retrospectively, when he was no longer the Chief Executive. (That sort of thing always catches the eye). With the appointment of Simon Storey as CEO, Ben Green reverted to the operations post that he'd briefly held towards the end of Jamie Clifford's tenure. It was briefer still this time. Three weeks later he was gone altogether, with the club getting their information blackout in early before anyone had the chance to go "What just happened?!"
So yes I was just starting to wonder if there'd been some complications with the latest appointment. But there he is, manifestly on the premises, so that's that. One small thing keeps nagging at me, though. On the Kent website the initial news item about our latest CEO began this way:
"With the upcoming release of ECB’s new Cricket Unleashed strategy which is designed to grow the game, Kent Cricket has expanded its senior leadership team with the permanent recruitment of Simon Storey as Chief Executive Officer. After a successful season on and off the field, Ben Green, who has served as Interim Chief Executive since February 2018, has been appointed Chief Operating Officer."
You're always going to have a CEO, so the expansion of the senior leadership team can only have meant Ben Green's new role as Chief Operating Officer (I think there'd been no such post during the 2018 season). Now that Mr Green has gone, will we be getting a replacement Chief Operating Officer, or do the club now feel they can engage fully with the ECB's Cricket Unleashed strategy even with an unexpanded senior leadership team? It doesn't actually feel all that important to me, but the club had invited us to take the matter seriously (if we wanted the game grown), so appoint a new COO and I'll stop being so sceptical!
