The proof of the pudding will be in the eating, of course, but Paul Downton is an experienced person, having played first class & Test cricket, and also having had both a career in the city and also having spent 19 years on the Middlesex Cricket Board, as well, of course as having been Managing Director of English Cricket: all of this experience should stand him in good stead. The fact that he is Kentish Man, and Kent was his first county, but comes to this post as an outsider having left Kent 38 years ago, is also a good point. I for one will certainly be interested to see what he, and the whole new structure at KCCC, bring to the club this year and beyond.

It means that KP won't be joining the coaching staff. Not obviously earth-shattering.

gmdf,
I reckon Downton is a good appointment for Kent. He has the necessary attributes for the county as you point out. He may not be as dynamic, cutting edge or visionary as some others, but one can see a steady, experienced and stable hand at the Canterbury helm.
