I'm not a regular online poster kind of guy, but the umpires last night made me boil, so I just had to log in and vent! Have you ever seen two umpires so keen to get off the pitch and so reluctant to come back? The light drizzle that came down for a few minutes was never sufficient to leave the field in limited over format. We then had about half an hour of dry weather, people all round the ground staying in their seats or just wandering in shorts and t-shirts, whilst the umpires stayed holed up indoors, never even showing their faces at the pavilion door or window. Disgraceful! OK, rain was forecast, at maybe it as on the radar, but you're supposed to play according to the weather conditions overhead, not what happening in Worthing. They could easily have played another 8-10 overs, plenty of time to establish a more sensible D/L score, or for Sussex to take a couple of wickets to completely alter the target. I hope the two lemons in green were proud of themselves as they drove home last night. Grrr!!

Interesting post, ady. Why not post more often? I wasn't there last night, partly because I 'knew' it was going to rain.

The umpires also seemed reluctant to pass information to the announcer. He waited at the Pavilion steps while they spoke to captains/teams, but presumably got nothing from them as he didn't pass on any info.

Would agree 100% with initial poster - a further 20 minutes could have been played prior to the actual downpour of rain, with the potential match result going to either side, particularly as when play ceased we only needed one more wicket to have won the match. Hopefully the Club will make their feelings known in the match report submitted to the appropriate authority.
