And Robinson and Briggs involved, both of whom were rumoured to be injury doubts Good to see young Salt opening the batting If we are to foresake any recruitment this season, he has a chance to prove that he can be a reliable opening partner for Wells

With our current lack of batting options on this tour, were there no academy batsmen worth looking at? Has Jonty Jenner now severed all links with the county?

The Sussex squad are flying home overnight after a pre-season tour in South Africa that had both its ups and downs. Most oddly, Jason Gillespie never turned up due to either a lost visa or passport - it is unsure which? After a rain cancelled game against Western Province Academy and then two defeats against Middlesex, the team made up for this with a resounding victory against Durham MCCU with Wright scoring 138 and Finch 116*, while Wells showed consistency throughout the tour with three scores of over 50. These are the views of spinner Will Sheffield. www.baca-uk.org.uk/News/Will-s-South-Africa-trip-continued/
