Tom Haines has been the most consistent of our younger batsmen, in this his first full season with the seconds I don’t think that’s saying much as the others have been awful. One 100 and one 50 so far for Haines suggests that he’s got something but I wouldn’t be putting him in the 1st XI anytime soon.

No, bang with you on that In fact there have been too many fast tracked into first eleven, despite little of substance in the seconds It’s not just the youngsters either, because we have so few options, out of form senior players often maintain their place in the side As I’ve always said, this current policy just leads to mediocrity Worse than that, we’ll start to lose our better players unless we start to show some ambition
