"England's Katherine Brunt says having fewer county teams will lead to more talented squads".
I reckon the first county they should get rid of is Yorkshire!

In the match at Taunton, reduced to 6 overs a side, Western Storm were allowed to have 2 bowlers bowling 2 overs each,as, according to the commentary, the officials interpreted the rule as "no bowler may bowl more than two" - normally (and this is what Loughborough had done) it is one bowler max two, remaining bowlers one each.

According to the Telegraph we’ve missed out on being assigned a Tier 1 women’s team. If so, it would be a real shame given our track record.

Interesting that the Torygraph has leaked the results because Filby said as much in his stint on comms last week. When asked when they’d know if Sussex had been successful with their bid he said the Telegraph would leak the results this week! Although it will be a blow to all concerned at Sussex, the winnings bids are all 1st Div teams and I’m afraid it was always going to be thus. Winning bids were from; Durham, Essex, Somerset, Hants, Surrey, Notts, Warwickshire and Lancs.

Clearly they were looking for geographic spread which probably meant we were head to head with Hampshire.

Middlesex are skint and Yorkshire have a lot of grovelling to do.

Middlesex are skint and Yorkshire have a lot of grovelling to do. Yes although you’d hope this decision would be based on long term criteria.

Will be interesting to hear what Filby has to say about this. After the nonsense he spoke about the floodlights; I hope he is more astute with any interview he gives.

Filby is probably the reason we didn’t get the decision. I’ve never met a more underwhelming and uninspiring person in a position of power. He’s everything that’s wrong with our great club. Been there for years so by default assumes he’s the man for the job. Filby out

I take it you’ve never had to deal with the world of politics then. Be thankful for that 😅

Why is there a need to restructure women's cricket into 3 tiers? Don't all Counties have sides now? Put them into 3 divs now, with immediate promotion and relegation. Job done. Am I missing something?

Not sure there are enough professional women players to make up 18 county sides?

Joe, No Tier 1 Women's matches is yet another sign of Sussex CCC in decline. A great pity given the club are one of the early pioneers for encouraging the fairer sex (let’s trigger the wokeys). This downturn, which has rapidly increased since post-lockdown, is down to failure of management, imho. Chris Adams, once again, alludes to this in a tweet this week. He writes, “… If you surround yourself and fill your key roles with mediocrity then you will only ever experience underachievement and ultimately disappointment ….. if you want to win then employ winners.” So true. Sussex have employed a series of people over the last 10 years or so, incapable of stopping the rot. Of course, the big surprise and huge disappointment was Rob Andrew. Meanwhile, I have sympathy for Jon Filby. The more influence he has had over the club the worse its decline. Using last season as an example, perhaps, his nickname should be “Calamity Jon”, but I daren’t say that, (damn, I have just done so), which means next time I attend a game at Hove, I’ll have to wear dark sunglasses and a wig. Ho-hum. In a recent post, I used Somerset as a comparison. Back in the noughties, we were on par with Taunton, if not ahead. Two small successful clubs fighting it out with the TMGs. The difference today is massive. Somerset has gone steadily upwards in stature due to excellent management and Sussex has fallen off the rails. No surprise Somerset secured a Tier 1 slot. Another example is Hampshire. Along comes Rod Bransgrove with huge ambition, vision and business know-how. He inspires the construction of the Ageas Bowl. Hampshire are now flying high and also secured a Tier 1 slot too. Pressure is mounting on "Calamity Jon" (God, I have said it again) to get us Championship promotion this season. He has placed 100% faith in Farbrace and sacrificed the previous T20 money-spinner. If Filby achieves this, all is forgotten. If not, then what happens? For when Jon steps down as Chairman, who on earth is there to take his place? Where are the management winners at Hove?
