I think the biggest problem we faced is the understandable desire of the ECB to spread the teams nationwide. We’re sandwiched between Surrey, Hampshire and Kent and also close to Middlesex. We were always going to be underdogs. Kent were very unlucky (and miffed) to lose out too.

My opinion is womens sport has reached a critical stage, huge investment is being made across a whole range of sport but how much of that investment is being returned? I honestly dont know but i look at last nights Amex attendance of 4987 with ticket prices at a highest being £12. At a guess I'm going to say Brighton lost money. How long will the ECB fund it and will these counties be left with mega wage bills they cant afford? Personally and this isnt based on anything than what i see but i think weve avoided something here.

The problem is AB with no hundred team and no women’s tier 1 team we become even more of an irrelevance to the ECB…. We have to get promoted so they can’t ignore us

Promotion is one thing and thats top priority but packed crowds at the Blast is vital, they have to get the marketing right and win games with it. I know RA was supremely unpopular but id have a 5er with anyone if he was our CEO we would have had a better tender. That was one of his few strengths.

He’s one of the worst things to ever happen to this county. We will be trying to repair the damage he’s done for years and we may never be able to

sponge, Oh dear. Chris Adams doesn’t seem to learn or care… threw his toys out of the pram when Orr left. What a load of tosh. Adams resigned along with Ian Gould from their backroom positions because along with Alan Wells plus 95% of Sussex supporters, they were disgusted how the club had lost Orr to Hampshire. Adams described the player’s release as “reckless at best and unforgivable at worst.” Gould agreed with him. It turned out neither had any sway at the Club Board meetings, anyway, as Andrew dominated proceedings. Look how that worked out! I appreciate Adams is a marmite figure, but the way he has been snubbed by the club since his playing retirement in 2008, is disgraceful.

A few thoughts on recent posts in this thread: - Support for women’s cricket shouldn’t just be judged on its financial impact. It’s a good thing in its own right to encourage more people to participate in and enjoy sport. - The financial impact is impossible to measure anyway. More women enjoying cricket should convert into more spectators for men’s cricket too and more children wanting to play and follow the game. - I believe that 16 counties submitted a bid for the new tier 1 franchises. They’re probably all financially conscious and felt it would work for them. Presumably the unlucky ones will run tier 2 teams anyway. - Kent are a division 1 team and also didn’t get a franchise. I don’t think promotion would have made any difference to us in this instance.

If you read it properly i said its at a critical stage, its being funded currently but it cannot continue unless it pays for itself or a fair chunk of it.

I made the point that the vast majority of counties must think they can make the sums add up, otherwise why bid? Of course they could all have it wrong but it would be presumptuous of me to assume that without evidence.

Oh dear. Chris Adams doesn't seem to learn or care. He had an opportunity to help and guide Sussex CCC through a difficult time. But what did he do; threw his toys out of the pram when Orr left. Pathetic. I don't think it's fair to criticise Adams when his social media account has obviously been hacked by a cruel parodist. Chris was a great county batsman and, like a lot of great captains, an effective skipper of a very strong side. To falsely portray him now as some sort of Harry Enfield character is very unkind.

Sometimes it can be difficult to know if people are being serious, or not. If his account has been hacked, he's had several years to report it, and get things removed, so I assume a joke. Chris Adams is behaving exactly the same way we all do on here. That's to say it's easy to criticise the current regime, whilst not being in the dressing room, and not really knowing what is going on, but thinking we all have the answer, and could do so much better ourselves, if only we were in charge.

Good summary and self-awareness. Obvious potential difference between Adams and the circle jerk on here, but it is in effect the same.
