From the highlights that I saw on television, this looked to be a good performance by England. There were tons for Tammy Beaumont and Sussex star, Sarah Taylor. Women's cricket seems to have come on in leaps and bounds in recent years. It sparked a conversation in my local pub last night: what standard of cricket would England's women be able to play against in the men's game. Views ranged from County 2nd XI to a village green side. Does anyone have any views on this? And did anyone attend the game at Hove who can report more deeply on the game?

From what I’ve seen it’s the bowling and ground fielding where the women’s game is so far behind the men’s. Women are far less likely to throw themselves around in the field and because they’re not as strong the ‘ fast ‘ bowling rarely gets above 70mph. I would say their level against men would probably be at U13, certainly nowhere near 2nd XI standard.
Having said that Sarah Taylor is a very good wicket keeper and Tammy Beaumont played some very stylish shots yesterday albeit against some very ordinary bowling.
Didn’t I read somewhere that the England women’s team played our Sussex U17’s and were resoundingly beaten?

I saw the game , collectively the teams are below 2nd team standard.
However some individuals, notably Sarah Taylor, could play 2nd team cricket. From i have seen of 2nd team cricket at Sussex the standard,is someway short of the 1st team, which most probable gives Gillespie a problem in moving players up into the 1st team.
Technically the ladies batting is very good, most probable better than a lot of the men. They have to rely on getting in the correct position and time the ball perfectly. Sarah Taylor's footwork when batting was excellent. Her keeping was good and you can only judge on what she has to keep too.
