With van Zyl and Mills injured and Jordan away with England my best guess at a team would be
Wright (c) Salt Bruce Evans Finch/Rawlins/Haines Burgess (wk) Wiese Archer Khan Briggs Garton
Rawlins would be the obvious choice for the No5 spot, although he’s not been performing in the 2’s his bowling would still probably give him the edge over Finch or Haines.

It is our batting which is the achilles heal. Wright must perform. Salt must come of age. And Bruce must fire. I note Khan is an able bat which is a plus. And what of Brown? Comes in as just a batter at 5 or 6?
I reckon this is Beer's final season swan-song... injury or no injury.

After a solid win at Arundel in the County Championship, we head to Chelmsford for our first game in the T20 Vitality Blast. Last season Sussex missed out on the knock out stage of the competition on run rate whilst Essex finished second to bottom in the Southern group. However, top and bottom of the table were separated by just 6 points with no team winning more than half of their games.
Sussex face three away games before returning to Hove to play Surrey at the end of next week. Although results in T20 games are often unpredictable, Essex will offer a stern test. In the last two seasons, we have recorded two wins over Essex. Last season at Hove, Sussex scored 172 for 4 with Nash scoring 72. In reply, Essex only managed 117 all out as Beer (3 wickets) shared the wickets with Jordan, Briggs, Wiese and Archer. In the 2016 season, a Sussex total of 200 for 6 proved too tough for Essex with Chris Jordan top scoring (45 not out). If we want to revive fond memories of Chelmsford, Luke Wright’s 153 not out in 66 balls in 2014 might help to spur us on.
The match will see the first appearance of Rashid Khan. We will be hoping for at least 2 wins from our three away games at Essex, Glamorgan and Hampshire before taking on Surrey. Will we be celebrating tomorrow evening? We will see.

The Sussex squad for tonight's encounter.
Wright, Archer, Beer, Briggs, Bruce, Burgess, Evans, Garton, Khan, Rawlins, Robinson, Salt, Wiese. Beer or Garton? Evans or Rawlins? A little surprised no Finch.
Joe,
I take your point re: Brown. I have no idea why he should be so vexed with T20. It should suit his style of play.

I think they’ll go with Rawlins and Garton with Robinson and Beer to miss out. Don’t think we’ll play 3 specialist spinners and Garton’s left arm pace offers a different angle of attack in the absence of Mills.

Garton and Rawlins left out. Where is the batting (and I don't mean Rawlins)?

What a bizarre team. I know, we have a strong attack and a poor batting line up, let's play the extra bowler. And Garton still can't get a game at this club. The mind boggles it really does.

Should have got 200, and probably would have if we had a batsman at six. Two homegrown players in this eleven, if you can include Salt, which I do. That's pathetic, it does not bode well for the future and it's completely at odds with the preseason nonsense that came out of Andrew's mouth.

Yawn yawn yawn 😴😴😴
Obsession with the number of homegrown players in the squad again 😴😴😴 after a winter when we actually brought no-one in from outside apart from an overseas player for half the season in the championship and two for the T20 🙄

Well what an excellent win that was at the so-called fortress Upton Park. It’s beeb more of a fortress for Sussex than Essex in T20. Good recovery from 32/3 and then some great bowling to really put the shackles on the Essex reply. I think it’ll be our bowling that serves us well in this year’s campaign, hopefully balancing out against maybe not the strongest batting line-up. Somehow we’ve got to get Jordan in that team as well! 😳

An excellent first win for Sussex against tough opposition whilst away at the so-called Chelmsford fortress. What a revelation Wiese has become this season under Gillespie's auspice. Also, 3 wickets for Archer and 2 for Rashid. Great knocks too from Burgess and Evans and what a comeback from 12-2 and then 32-3. All in all, a perfect start to the campaign. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/scorecard/ECKO42907

First thank you DFL for the link.
What a good win. I like this set up of a side, bowling allrounders. There is no one who cannot get 20 runs, there is no one who cannot field. I think this will be a squad tournament with rotation amongst the seamers. They need to be fresh for the final CC push. I like 3 spinners, it gives a variety we last had when we won the comp. Jordan in for Robinson. He needs preserving for the CC. For Garton fans, I see him playing as well. Mills, I'm afraid IMO history. Fun when he played, now confined to the physio couch.
Back to the live feed. I watched while listening to BBC, goodness knows what game they watch. The feed was a ball behind so you knew what had happened, until you saw what happened. Rashid's bowled wicket, turned, no straight ball inside edge dragged on, Briggs variety, left arm darts for me. Don't get me wrong I am not decrying either bowler, both did an adequate job, but no more. Wiese bowled well and Archer finished well but Burgess for me, MoM. Changed the tempo and complexion of the game.
Please, especially Bruce 'Myopic' Talbot tell us what happens, these live feeds are going to expose your one eyed view of the game and players. Be fair, be objective.
