After three away wins followed by two home defeats, the Sussex players may be pleased that they are back on the road today as they travel to Lords to face Middlesex.
Middlesex have not performed well in the T20 Blast this season with two wins and five defeats so far. Their two wins have come at home – against Surrey and Hampshire. A defeat today will make Middlesex’s chances of qualifying for the knockout phase slim, so it’s an important game for them.
Paul Stirling has been Middlesex’s most consistent batsman with two fifties and 190 runs at a decent strike rate. Max Holden has also performed well. When bowling, Finn, Agar, Fuller, Helm and Bravo have all had their days and performed steadily rather than outstandingly, but they have struggled keep opposing scores down.
In the games between Sussex and Middlesex last season, Sussex lost by 2 runs at Lords falling short of Middlesex’s target of 147. Eskinazi and Stirling scored the bulk of Middlesex’s runs, but after a good start in which Stiaan van Zyl and Chris Nash took Sussex to 77 for 2 after 9 overs, no one got into double figures. In the earlier game last season at Hove, Sussex restricted Middlesex to 136 for 6 after 17.4 overs at which point the weather intervened to bring a no result.
Sussex will be keen to get their T20 campaign back on track after two home defeats. Whether there will be a shuffle of the pack remains to be seen. Is a fourth away win possible after the disappointing performance against Gloucestershire? We will see.

Luke Wright wins the toss and we bat first again (hopefully better than last night). Rawlins replaces Mills. I think JG reads this forum.

Heck. 50 up in the fifth over. I think it was the 11th over that we got to 50 last night.

He should read this forum, or at least my posts, as I am the lord of the dance said he. Much better balance to this side tonight, at last. Rawlins is a sixth bowling option, a proper one, in that he is a batsman who can bowl a bit. Garton in for Weise and you have yourself a team. That would strengthen the bowling but weaken the batting, but the batting has already been bolstered now we have the right balance so it don't matter. Jordan, Archer and Rashid at 7,8 and 9 is ticketyboo. Wake up people.

Final over hat trick for Archer clinches Sussex win by 12 runs.

Good result. From what I can see, when we score over 150/160, we are in with a decent chance with the bowling we have. If we had scored 160 v. Gloucestershire, we would have been in with a good shout. It's getting to 160 that can be the problem.

A bloody Murray. Excellent from Salt and Rawlins, the extra batsman, and excellent from our five bowlers, who done the job their allocation allows them without having to rely on someone worse than them to do it for them. Our best performers are quite regularly young. That can't be right.

Sad for Mills. It must be embarrassing for him not to be picked. And do Sussex have their 'home T20 hex' back again, first seen during the latter stages of Robbo's reign?
Anyway, we're on track again, even if we can only win away from home, whilst Archer has his T20 mojo back.
