Last week’s three impressive T20 wins in four days mean that Sussex have a 670-mile round trip to face Durham in the Quarter Finals of the T20 Blast on Friday. Durham finished second in the Northern Group winning 9 and losing 4 of their 14 games. Durham’s success has been down to their bowlers tending to keep opponents to manageable scores rather than the batsmen reaching large totals. They have managed to restrict opponents to 150 or less in half of their games. Tom Latham has been their highest scoring batsmen with 454 runs, scoring at 137 runs per 100 balls. Only Ryan Davies with a modest average has a higher scoring rate than Latham excepting Ben Stokes who scored slightly more quickly in the three games he has played. Stokes, however, has been ruled out of the game. Stokes is one of four batsmen who have scored 50s this season in the Blast for Durham. In the bowling department, Nathan Rimmington has picked up 22 wickets at a cost of nearly 9 per over. But, Durham have six bowlers who have conceded 6.5 or less per over, which is impressive. Sussex are one game away from Finals Day at Edgbaston. Having beaten Durham convincingly in the County Championship at Arundel, Sussex will be hoping that Chester le Street will be the scene of another victory. It’s a long way to go for 2.5 hours’ cricket, but there’s certain to be a lot of optimism in the camp right now. A trip to Birmingham in September? We will see. Edit: BBC got it wrong. Stokes now available to bat but not bowl (thanks coverpoint)

To state the bleedin' obvious, we need to get Stokes out early. Not another Aaron Finch scenario please.

After the first 3 overs, I would have settled for 175. Good work by Briggs and Beer. We’ve still got to get these runs though at a low scoring ground. We obviously need a good start.

Kent fan here. After seeing Kent crash out again to Lancashire, I was thrilled to see Sussex win tonight. Really pleased that there will be some south East representation at Edgbaston. Well done Sussex. Was at hove on Wednesday and will be there on Monday for Ladies finals day!

Finals day here we come Thoroughly professional performance following Durham’s flying start One point, if we’re going to try and blast them out in those early overs, then at least put in a slip

Perhaps, the most professional performance I have witnessed from Sussex since the golden decade. To see the Club suffocate the Durham batsmen after their flying start via the two spinners alongside the seamers who then completely changed tack by using intelligence, guile and taking the pace off the ball, was not only mightily impressive, but awesome to watch. Onward to the trophy!
