We have given away 57 extras in this match, this has been a major problem for 2-3 season and very little appears to being done to resolve giving the opponents easy runs. Sussex have no option but to play Salt and co, there is no one else, especially as Wright has been forced out. Could play Garton as a batter, who bowls. But who opens? Briggs !!? If Archer plays, a batter could be dropped. Because Dizzy has decided we didn’t need anyone

A grand total of 34 from the 4 innings of our openers, not good enough. Salt is not a red ball opener and Haines needs another year with the 2nd XI. Exactly, both would be second eleven openers at most other counties

Might just as well open with vanZyl and Wells and try Haines further down. I would drop Salt when Finch is back and keep Burgess and play either Briggs or Garton depending on conditions.

Yes they did but their 4 innings in this match they totalled 34. Steel and Lees for Durham totalled 29. Those 5 runs could be important in low scoring game.

I was going to post something similar, the negativity on here at times is astonishing. Brilliant to have a fully fit Van Zyl back and firing on all cylinders with Wiese having a good game with the ball too. Some good performances in there after the dodgy start and even the skipper is off the mark now!

Agreed, good contributions from Wells and Evans also, and Durham isn’t an easy place to get a result Better application in that first match against Leicestershire, and we’d have been off to a flyer

I reckon Durham are gonna prove to be the worst side in the division pretty soon, and we won't be far above them.
The Kolpaks will always do alright overall as they're international players playing div 2 county cricket. They need to do better than alright though, and both have in this game. That could have easily been Garton and Wright doing that in this game, and should be.
To relieve you of your astonishment Sussexforever, the rule is one overseas player, rightly or wrongly, so if someone doesn't like cheating they're not gonna be enthralled by the employment of Kolpaks. According to European Union law, not English cricket law, any county team could employ 25 kolpaks and not a single Englishman if they wanted. All within a game that states you are allowed one overseas player.

Take it you voted leave then?😉 Not sure the Kolpaks will be allowed after Brexit will they? Come on, admit it that Van Zyl did more than “alright”?
