Take it you voted leave then?😉 Not sure the Kolpaks will be allowed after Brexit will they? Come on, admit it that Van Zyl did more than “alright”? Even if we do leave, Westminster is doing its upmost to defy the 2016 public vote so much for taking back control perhaps we should have elected some MPs and a Prime Minister which match the view of the people first, and there are no Kolpaks I would expect a return to two overseas players. Under these circumstances I would opt for Van Zyl and Wiese.

I think I did admit it. And yes, I'm a leaver. Again, no prizes for gathering that. These two and numerous others have got lucky with us having a remain government actually. It must be clear that without this EU legislation, our domestic laws can be enforced properly. Giving teams like Sussex a problem or two, if we do actually leave, which I doubt we will.
For the record, I'm in favour of the UK's involvement in a different EU. One that's more friends with benefits for all concerned, than a wholehearted totally committed marriage. Also, I would definitely Kolpak if I was a past my best South African looking to bolster my finances. It's not personal, these two are taking an opportunity, the club are in the wrong.

Wells, van Zyl, Wiese and Evans all did well. A good fight back and points on the board.

I’ll leave the EU debate on this thread for now but if you want to debate Brexit, please use the Off Topic section of the forum which is down the bottom. Similarly, if you want to debate Kolpaks in general, please use the General Cricket section. Let’s keep this thread to Durham v Sussex matters. Thanks

The victory came about due to a healthy balance of homegrown and Kolpaks talent. Luke Wells played a huge part in the first innings just as van Zyl did in the second with Wiese contributing alongside Robinson. Is there a name for such a shared success? Homepaks, perhaps?

I reckon Durham are gonna prove to be the worst side in the division pretty soon, and we won't be far above them. My astonishment is comments like this. 2 games into the season and you want to stick the boot in to the side. We are traditionally slow starters and have got a result at a difficult venue in April against a side who in Rushworth have one of the best opening bowlers around and is a nightmare in those conditions. Back to the kolpaks. How do you regard Murray Goodwin, the finest batsman I will probably ever see at Hove? I'm sure Turk, Heather et al would have been just as good though. Van Zyl had a good first season and has started this one well. Let's see how many runs he has come September. Provided there are no problems with his knee I reckon he'll hit 1000.

Yes, the Durham performance was as good as the Leicester one, was bad Too early to gauge how we’ll fare based on these two results

I wish you'd use full stops JB - you confuse me for like three seconds at least. Doesn't sound like much but if I've read every one of your 2000 odd posts I'm losing a good hour or so every year.
I don't think it's too early to gauge our season. If you compare us to last season, factoring in that we've added next to nothing, we've lost Archer and Wright, and the club's secret service approach, well it spells it out to me. They don't want the natives to know that their club is being taken down the toilet. I can always be wrong though, always.
I regard Goodwin, Sussexforever, as a legitimate overseas player for the most part - I think he was. You should be able to ascertain that I'm not questioning ability as such. Most of the Kolpaks are pretty good, barring a handful like Voros, Sandri and a couple more probably. But they should be as former internationals. It's the status I have an issue with because it's a loophole law that has nothing to do with English cricket, forced on English cricket by an organisation most people don't wanna be a part of - albeit tight on that count.
Listen Mod, don't wipe out developing conversations just because they go in a different direction, it's all relative and I can't be bothered to go traipsing through the site to pick up on responses. You should be grateful of the activity on what has been a declining message board for several years now. You're lucky I'm here, I should be revising for my GCSEs.

I’m afraid Goodwin was only overseas for his first 4 seasons, was a Kolpak for the last 8. And sorry to be picky, but neither Voros nor Sandri were Kolpaks, they both had EU passports - we’ll, allegedly in the case of Voros🙄🤭

So what, same thing. Associate or full member, you're overseas either way.
Anyway, it is what it is, nobody really cares, certainly not most counties. Many have them and if the authorities are as bothered as I am they can look forward to hitting the counties with it if we ever leave the forever damned EU. I don't really like to bring it up to be honest.
That's a shame about Goodwin, I'll have to wipe his last 8 years off the memory - Not a lot happened back then, did it :/
I don't know how to put an emoggi on. {&% Nearly.

I’m afraid they’re not the same thing - players with EU passports and Kolpak players are very different.
So that’s 2 county championships, a C&G trophy, 2 Pro40s and a T20 title we have to delete from history!!😳🤭😉
He he, like the emoji attempts 😊
