I wondered if this might happen when I heard that Saturday's race meeting at Worcester was abandoned because the River Severn had burst its banks.
Pictures from Worcester racecourse:
Worcester news picture looks even worse:
With the following comment:
The Track is no longer raceable with flood water standing in multiple areas. The river level is also still rising. Please let everyone know, we are gutted about this but hoping the weather improves for our next fixture on Sunday 23 June.
Worcester reported 72mm of rainfall in the past five days, and more rain is forecast throughout today, and tomorrow afternoon.
Worcestershire have announced the following:
Now on the BBC:
I take that is an old picture in The Cricketer:

Kidderminster, which stands on a hill on the south side of the town and is noted for its fast draining, has staged 68 Worcestershire first-class fixtures since first being used in 1921.
It was the county's main standby option in 2007 when they also hosted home games at short notice at grounds as far apart as Himley, Derby, Taunton and even Edgbaston.
By a twist of fate, Warwickshire are due to host a Championship Division One home game against Essex at Worcester next month (13-16 July).
The ground is Chester Road and the postcode is DY10 1TH.

Why were we playing at the racecourse anyway? You'd never get a boundary down the ground.

Just seen this on another thread:
i see worcestershire's match next week v sussex has moved to kidderminster due to predicted flooding at new road.
i have no problem with that at all( good that worc. are able to move at short notice), however they are starting the match a day later than scheduled to allow preparation of the ground.( i think that is unfair to everybody else in the division where every point counts)
i can't imagine the other counties would be that happy, that the match is starting later than scheduled, derby & grace road also have matches starting at the same time, why can't they have an extra day to prepare due to the bad weather.
if worc. or sussex gain enough points for promotion due to the match starting a day later than scheduled & other teams get rained off, can the other teams complain to the e.c.b.
ANY THOUGHTS or am i way off the mark.
Provocative?

Looking at the forecast for Kidderminister, Monday and Tuesday are looking OK but Wednesday and Thursday there’s rain forecast with Friday OK. So I think it’s swings and roundabouts to be fair. If we’d started on Monday we’d still have had 2 interrupted days.

From the BBC:
Worcester under water again
Worcestershire v Sussex - match starts on Tuesday
Of all the many outgrounds named to be used in county cricket this season because of the World Cup, back when the fixtures came out over the winter, Chester Road, Kidderminster was not one of them.
But the flood waters have struck again at Worcester - and Kidderminster, which used to be granted an annual Championship fixture, has suddenly found itself thrust into the spotlight again.
After being given just a few days' notice, Chester Road will now stage the four-day Division Two fixture against Sussex, which has been put back a day to Tuesday, to allow the Kidderminster and Worcestershire groundstaff (and a lot of willing volunteer helpers) to prepare both the wicket and the facilities.
Worcestershire chief executive Matt Rawnsley drove over to Chester Road on Saturday afternoon to discuss arrangements with the Kidderminster officials.
Chester Road, Kidderminster staged the first of its 67 first-class fixtures to date in 1921
In his History of Worcestershire CCC 1865-2014, county historian Andrew Thomas included a whole chapter about the then total of 159 floods since New Road staged its first game of first-class cricket in 1899.
Of all those floods, only 13 have been mid-season. And he says: "If past summer floods are any guide, it is unlikely that there will be play at New Road for about three weeks."
That might put the one-day game against Australia A on 25 June under threat. But, after this week, the Pears are not due to host another Championship game until 7 July, against Derbyshire.
If it has flooded 159 times in 150 years perhaps relocating the ground away from the Severn River might be a wise move.

Having just visited the WCCC offices it was established that no transport is being provided for WCCC and Sussex CCC supporters from New Road to Kidderminster. It was suggested that travel by train from Worcester to Kidderminster was the best option. A message will be placed on the WCCC website later today giving guidance to supporters. GOSBTS.

What sort of hell hole is this? Surely county cricket ground have to have a minimum standard. Surely adequate seating and proper toilets are a bare minimum. ECB should be seriously reviewing whether Kidderminster is a suitable venue for first class cricket. Having decided to move the game from Worcestershire to Kidderminster they have a responsibility to ensure supporters are able to get the match. Their attitude towards both Worcestershire and Sussex fans has been utterly deplorable and they should hold their heads in shame. www.wccc.co.uk/news/spectator-guide-vs-sussex-ccc-specsavers-county-championship-tues-18th-fri-21st-june-kidderminster-cc/

Blimey, this is primitive. I guess they didn't have enough notice to arrange chair hire.

Clearly Kidderminster haven't heard or read the guide to safety at sports grounds (green book). I am not convinced either Kidderminster or Arundel confirm to this.
