So, it took just one over to complete the match this morning. Why can't the 'losing' captain agree to concede the match at the end of day 3? Surely, the attendance was 0, excluding players and officials?

Concede? Concede? You don’t concede a match unless you can’t put a team out. You play up with head held high, even if the situation seems hopeless. And one over on day 4? That’s just another of cricket’s peculiarities, that type of thing maybe happens across all games played by all teams about once a season if that, so hardly a great hardship. What next, packing in at tea because the game is heading towards a draw?

No. I don’t want a sport in which all its little oddities have been eliminated in the name of practicality. Otherwise I might as well follow the comings and goings of a container terminal.

Otherwise I might as well follow the comings and goings of a container terminal. I don't call it a mere 'oddity' when dozens of people have to turn up on day 4, just so a team can score 10 runs. The lack of spectators would ensure that cricket's status in the 'entertainment industry' would remain untarnished! Also, I think common sense should trump 'little oddities' that have no bearing on the outcome of the match.

It could have been raining all the 4th day! Yes, and a wise captain should always have this in mind. If my team were 9 down with a 500 deficit and into the last 2 overs of the penultimate day, I’d expect them to fight to stay there. It’s absolutely right to do so and one would expect the oppo to do the same. I remember someone did this in a Test in England a few years ago. I am not sure, but I think there was a game involving Surrey a few years back where the tail batted recklessly in a similar situation on day 3, were all out at around 6pm or so and it rained all the next day.
