We really could do so much worse than do that!

Like Harrison Ward, who was staring with England U19s last year, we can’t even find them a place on the staff

Like Harrison Ward, who was staring with England U19s last year, we can’t even find them a place on the staff In fairness it is up to them to produce the consistent run of performances to warrant a place on the staff.
Clark got 94 for England Under 19, Billings got 51 and 62 in the last game and Orr 77* also in the last three day game. Consistency of performance is what they need to show now.

If only to justify our stated aim of using local youngsters Our recent record of promoting players from the academy is poor, very poor, with only Haines and Sheffield earning places on the staff

Maybe, but it’s hardly that is it. What did Will Sheffield do to earn a place on the staff, and Tom Haines isn’t pulling up any trees

Something is clearly going wrong with the coaching and development of players at Sussex between the Under 17s and the first team as our Under 17s compare favorably to other counties such as Surrey. The difference is Surrey have managed to develop the likes of Curran, Pope etc. whereas the Sussex coaching staff have failed miserably. Are the Sussex coaching team good enough?
Promote to the first team squad
Tom Clark
Select for the Academy
Scott Lenham Batsman Alistair Orr Batsman Daniel Ibrahim Batsman Jack Carson Spinner Ed Taylor Batsman Ollie Carter Wicketkeeper Tom Hinley Spinner Archie Lenham Spinner

Tom played for England U19’s yesterday in their opening game of the U19 World Cup. He top scored with 38 but England were soundly beaten by WI who have also beaten Australia in the group. England’s next game is tomorrow against Australia.

Not a good game for Tom or England, Australia won off the last ball and England are out of the cup competition and will now play for the lesser plate alongside the also-rans.

New contract signed, a big year for Tom. I think he'll continue to develop under Farbrace. Hoping he becomes a genuine all-rounder for us.
