The semi-final of the Women’s T20 World Cup between England and India has been washed out in Sydney meaning that India progress to the final as they won their group and England were runners up. The other semi final is also under threat due to adverse weather meaning that the hosts could be eliminated in the same way.
The men’s T20 World Cup later this year will, as I understand it, operate under the same rules.
I understand schedules, organising staff, making arrangements for players and officials means a lot of effort, but surely for a premier tournament there can be some flexibility and days when a game can be rearranged.
I’m assuming if the final is washed out as well, it will be decided on run rate, boundaries, shoe sizes of the captains or some other statistic. You’d have thought that contingencies could be built in and umpires, ice cream salesmen and other key people could be persuaded to hang around for another day or two because I am sure the players would be ok to wait 24/48 hours or whatever it takes. I expect it’s the TV companies who would hate the inconvenience most!

England Eliminated from Women's T20 World Cup without a ball bowled After Heavy Rain Washes Out Semi-Final against IndiaThe ICC officials who govern world cricket should be humiliated and flogged for such a disgrace. How many more high-profile international and T20 tournaments be sullied by such small-minded and petty people whose short-sightedness and stubbornness stop them from creating the most obvious steps to end such an unprofessional and embarrassing finale to major competitions.
Could you imagine the outcry if a semi-final of a football World Cup was abandoned to rain, then never played, and the winner decided solely because they topped their group and the opponent came second in theirs. The ICC are idiots and fools. The solution is so simple. Create Reserve Days.
According to the BBC Website, "Each team signed up to the playing conditions before the tournament began, and they stated that there is no reserve day for the knockout stages. Cricket Australia approached the ICC on Wednesday about including a reserve day but they were knocked back. Organisers have said an extra day was not feasible because it would extend the length of the tournament."
What a load of Bullsh*t. Surely, this is about sponsorship, TV and media rights. The idea that a tournament of such importance, particularly to grow the Women's game, is so inflexible that not even an extra day can be added if required is beyond reproach.
This is yet another terrible day for the Governing body of cricket and they deservedly should be put in the stocks and have rotting vegetables thrown at them. Yet, which cricket country has the courage or the power to carry out such a measure? And which players are willing to put their head above the parapet? This process can only be started by the mainstream media, surely, but even they may baulk in fear of losing their treasured match passes.
Meanwhile, cricket continues to be the laughing stock of International sport.

Australia win the final by a country mile. If their semi final had been rained off, they would not have been in the final.
