If they did this in the county championship there would be no one there.

Maintaining 1m separation shouldn't be a problem at County Championship matches

I can't see how this can be enforced - either games go ahead (perhaps with warnings for those in 'at risk' groups), or they go ahead with crowd number limitations, or they go ahead behind closed doors (impossible on some grounds, I'd have thought) or they don't go ahead.
Personally only the first two options seem feasible.

Is Matt Hancock a wind up merchant? Telling over 70s to self-isolate for four months. As if they are going to obey this instruction?

Is Matt Hancock a wind up merchant? Telling over 70s to self-isolate for four months. As if they are going to obey this instruction? Exactly. As I have seen pointed out elsewhere they may well be needed to look after their grandchildren if schools are closed, or some parents won't be able to go to work - in the NHS, as delivery drivers, power station workers, police etc. True isolation for more than a couple of weeks isn't really conceivable in a democracy.

Those that (are able to) comply are less likely to succumb to the virus. Depends on your personal attitude to risk. We need to accept that 'normal life' has to be suspended for a while. I agree that 4 months sounds unrealisic - I read that the government reckoned that 12 weeks would be a reasonable maximum time, and that's why they're delaying the announcement for as long as possible.

Can you imagine Brenda's reaction to being told that she couldn't go to cricket in April - July because she has to self isolate.

But, seriously, there won't be any cricket to watch until the crisis is over.

And I don't think Brenda does interwebby things. Once some of the cricketers/coaches/staff are infected, they'll have to call a halt, just as has happened with football. And I would guess that most of the stewards are over 70, so won't be allowed out!

Poor Brenda, she is now a social media star and she doesnโt know it!
Hope someone tells her!.

If there is no crowd stewards won't be required.
As the Chief Scientist observed banning mass gatherings will have little effect. Unfortunately our weak government has bowed to media pressure and those like Piers Morgan with the biggest gobs who are ill informed and ignorant of the facts. Sensualist journalism is a scourge on modern society. The media should reporting the facts rather than making up stories to sell newspapers and make headlines. There will be a time where we do need to self-isolate but looking at the curve we should be isolating in mid-June. Even Doctor Hillary admits it is too early to lock down (or to use the proper term, rather than the sensualist American term, quarantine). If you are banning mass gatherings why are we not banning travel and why are we closing schools? South Korea has done mass testing but no lock down. I would suggest everyone should be tested and then we will know what we are dealing with and can respond appropriately. We don't have enough beds and so need to slow down the disease.
The latest suggestion is this might last twelve months. If it does businesses will go bust, people will lose their jobs and people will lose their home. What good is it to people if they are destitute, homeless and are starved to death due to shops running of supplies as a result of panic buying?

I can't see any meaningful cricket being played before June (or more likely July) unless all predictions are far from accurate.
Yesterday I read one piece suggesting that the ECB would cancel the County Championship for the season, play the 100 as planned, and move the T20 Blast to the end of the season. I presume the RL 50 over cup would, as planned, go ahead during the 100.
I can't say I'd like that, but it has a sort of logic about it.
I should say that some people are guessing (which is all anyone can really do) that the crisis will last 6 months and, so, obliterate the whole cricket season.

That's gloomy, but it's a realistic scenario, I suspect. Mentally, I'm preparing for the worst, so any outcome better than that will be a pleasant surprise!
