No-one has mentioned the weather which for Britain is (amazingly) its greatest ally to "conquer" the coronavirus.
In China, the virus is rapidly declining now because of the warmer Spring climes as Covid-19 like most other viruses hates warm weather.
It has great difficulty surviving. China's National Health Commission reported just 16 new confirmed cases and 14 deaths during the last
four days bringing the total number of cases in the country to 80,860, of which more than 67,000 patients have recovered. Unfortunately,
Europe and the rest of the world are well behind the curve with Italy and Spain leading the charge. The vast majority of deaths have
occurred to the elderly where in Italy, for example, the average age has been 81.5 years-old. Those younger who have died, the vast majority
had underlying health problems.
Therefore, the timing of the outbreak in Britain is fortuitous. So long as the weather warms up and we actually get some decent spells of
sunshine, I could see the outbreak diminishing by the end of April, which allows cricket to begin in May. We may only see four Championship
games affected, whilst the T20, 50 over and The 100 will go ahead as scheduled.
It is a sobering fact that since January 1st of this year, there have been worldwide 100,370 seasonal flu deaths; 63,840 deaths of mothers
during birth; 347,211 deaths caused by HIV/AIDS; 1,696,317 deaths caused by cancer; 202,594 deaths caused by malaria; 1,032,513 deaths
caused by smoking; 516,582 deaths caused by alcohol; 221,495 suicides; 278,826 road traffic accident fatalities; and just over 6,500 people
have died from the Coronavirus.
What we are experiencing is an hysterical media feeding frenzy.
