On reading this article I see Eastbourne College employ 3 cricketing staff to develop players!! Probably in common with other public schools. No wonder fees are so extortionate and cricket is becoming the preserve of private schools.
When I was at public school in Bath in the 70s we had no ex professional cricketer on the staff. At the comp my son attended in the 90s they never played cricket.
Joe Root, already an established young cricketer was picked off by Worksop College from his comp on a scholarship. Haseeb Hameed was another who went from comp to Bolton public school. I read that in his final year he was so brilliant that the school didnt pick him because it wasnt nurturing his precocious talent nor giving the opposition any opportunity for a decent contest. And now look, at the age of 23 if it wasnt for his past performances it's unlikely any county would be interested in him in view of his disastrous outings in the last 2 seasons at Lancashire.
So it goes to show being an outstanding school talent doesn't mean you can cut it at county level yet alone on the international stage.

I’ve been reading up on this guy, seems a massive talent. Is he actually affiliated to Sussex CCC, or does he just attend School here and consequently represent the region

From the following article: www.cricxtasy.com/covid-19-challenge-could-make-or-break-cricket-in-zimbabwe/"Recently, a Zimbabwe-born prodigy Tawanda Muyeye, who was named as a reserve for the 2018 U-19 World Cup squad, won the prestigious ‘Wisden Schools Cricketer of the Year’ award reflecting that Zimbabweans around the world can succeed. Unfortunately, Muyeye could represent Sussex pretty soon with the eventual aim of representing the English national team but Zimbabwe have enough home-grown talent to nurture."

There were suggestions from Surrey fans on their message board, that they were trying to entice him into their system

Signed for Kent - www.kentcricket.co.uk/news/muyeye-signs-for-kent/Bit disappointing this, feels like one that got away, and god knows we need all the batting help we can get. Incidentally, I sent in a question to Gillespie about whether Muyeye was either on the books or a prospective signing during one of Adrian Harms interviews with him last season, and neither of them had heard of him, so I can't say I'm surprised!

Very very embarrassing for the club that we have let him slip through the net. Can’t keep hold of our experienced players and can’t attract youngsters either. Our director of cricket really is holding us back.

This is very disappointing news with his Sussex connections through Eastbourne College etc. I know for a fact Sussex offered him a contract, would have been great to get a young batter on the books.
Good luck to the lad.

Good to hear that Sussex at least offered him a contract, and if Kent offered better terms then I certainly can't blame him for taking them! Worth noting too that he apparently had mentorship from Treadwell and another Kent ex-player, so that may have had an impact on his decision.
Hopefully he has a successful career, and maybe down the line we can lure him back to the club!
