Games continue to come thick and fast and, at the halfway stage, Sussex can generally be pleased with their efforts in the T20 Blast this season. If only, we could have scored those two runs off the last two balls against Kent, it would seem even rosier. Indeed, we would be sitting on a three point lead at the top of the table. However, the history of the T20 Blast tells us that every season has multiple 'what if' moments, which you have to put behind you and move on. The next encounter takes us to Canterbury with a chance to avenge that narrow defeat at Hove just over a week ago.
Kent sit at the top of the table with 8 points from 5 games. Their two dropped points were an abandoned that they deserved to win and a tied game against Middlesex in which they stumbled badly in the final over. As before when we faced Kent, the winners of this encounter will be sitting at the top of the table after the contest.
Daniel Bell-Drummond has been Kent's outstanding batsmen in the T20 Blast this season, scoring 228 runs at over 180 per 100 balls. Zak Crawley has also scored regularly at a slightly slower rate. Kent's strength seems to be scoring runs as we found at Hove this season. Kent's totals have been 209, 195 and 192 when they have batted for all 20 overs, 162 when they passed the Essex total in the 19th over and 52 for 0 off 4.1 overs in the abandoned game.
The notable changes for Sussex from the previous game against Kent are the return of Chris Jordan and the loss of Phil Salt, which might mean fewer runs scored and fewer runs conceded. It should be an interesting battle. Can Sussex come home with two points? We will just have to wait and see.
