After a heartening performance at The Oval, Sussex head west to face Hampshire at the Ageas Bowl for a second two-day friendly. Both the batting and bowling performed well at The Oval with Tom Haines scoring a century and Tom Clark and Ben Brown both scoring 50s. In the bowling department, George Garton, Henry Crocombe and Jack Carson each took three of the 12 Surrey wickets to fall. Sean Hunt also picked up two wickets against his old team mates.
There didn't seem a lot of optimism about the forthcoming County Championship season on the recent thread (https://unofficialsussexccc.freeforums.net/thread/1548/thoughts-2021-season), but another solid performance at The Ageas might encourage a few more to have higher expectations when the season kicks off on Thursday 8th April.
Although the game at The Oval was officially declared a draw, I'm going to call it a Sussex victory. Can Sussex "win" a second game against Hampshire? We are just going to have to wait and see, I guess.

On paper the squad will be stronger with Robinson, Salt and Meaker coming back in and Atkins and Lenham missing out.
I’d like to see Robinson and Garton open the bowling.

Normal service resumed?
None of the bowlers are hitting their line and length consistently today. James Vince thinks it’s his birthday.

Another encouraging innings from Haines (72). Let us hope he can transfer this form to the 'proper' Championship.
Sussex: 150-3 (51 overs)

I think at the moment the starting XI for Lancashire will be Haines, Salt, Van Zyl, Clarke, Brown c, wk, Rawlins, Garton, Robinson, Carson, Meaker, Crocombe Could be an exciting side, especially with Head in. Could be a disastrous side too, with all that yoot. Big chance for Garton to establish himself as an opening bowler, so long as the people at the top realise opening is the best place for a left arm swing bowler. I'd like to see Hunt in for Mr Meaker.

Whilst it appeared that Phil Salt was on the field during the Hampshire innings, he did not appear to have batted during the Sussex innings. Hopefully he is not injured. Can anyone update on this situation, please.

Whilst it appeared that Phil Salt was on the field during the Hampshire innings, he did not appear to have batted during the Sussex innings. Hopefully he is not injured. Can anyone update on this situation, please. He was involved in a accident where a motorbike ran into him while he was cycling. No broken bones but extensive bruising and a bang to the head. Due to concussion protocol and pain in his leg he was unable to bat (as a precaution) but should be fit for the first game on Thursday.
