Whilst I think team spirit and enjoying ones cricket is important, I am surprised that Ian Salisbury and James Kirtley have given the go ahead for Ollie Robinson's "bit of fun" in the friendly against Hampshire today. According to this press release (www.sussexcricket.co.uk/ollie-to-bowl-left-arm-spin), Ollie will bowl left arm spin for two overs if he takes more than two wickets in today's friendly.
Frankly, I think this is disrespectful to Hampshire and that we should be taking every game seriously. I accept that the Surrey score with 12 wickets falling looked a bit strange, but I find this is acceptable in a friendly. However, the idea a talented bowler who is close to England standard bowling slow left arm of whatever variety of spin at The Ageas Bowl is ridiculous. It gives the impression that Sussex are not taking their red ball cricket seriously.
The next thing we will be learning is that the batsmen will be playing "tip and run" when they bat if they score more than 20.
Apparently, it was suggested in training that it would be fun to bowl some overs with the wrong arm, but Salisbury cracked the whip and said that he would not allow more than two overs of fun.
I hope someone can post the video.
