Unlike his 3 sons and 3 grandsons.
Some youtube of a charity match with him involving England and county players against Duke of Norfolks XI at a packed house in Arundel in 1953. The good old days.
One run short of a century.
RIP

Prince Andrew was in Gordonstoun first team in 1978 . Kate played cricket for her various schools and often plays cricket for the press on her overseas trips.

Prince Andrew was in Gordonstoun first team in 1978 . Kate played cricket for her various schools and often plays cricket for the press on her overseas trips. I stand corrected. I knew Kate was a keen hockey and netball player. As I stated in the schools thread Princess Anne's husband captained the cricket team at his college at Durham University. My opinion of Prince Andrew has gone up.

Extending this thread to Royal Family relatives and connections to cricket, Prince Andrew's former father in law, Major Ronald Ferguson, in keeping with royal tradition was a keen polo player, but at Dunmer Farm, the family and ancestral home, he set up Dunmer Cricket Clinic to develop young cricketers, and it is this which helped inspire his son to try and bring Hants County Cricket back to Basingstoke near where the clinic is based www.basingstokegazette.co.uk/news/799288.first-class-cricket-would-benefit-local-youngsters/

Reasonable amount of maidens for the Prince. He certainly kept it tight at one end.

Surely that should read 1978? Andrew was undergoing naval training in 1979.
Those are royally impressive figures. No making up the numbers for team selection with those averages. And yet he's never appeared to show any interest in the game like his sister and nephews with rugby union.

Joe Bugner:"I once presented a trophy to Princess Anne after an equestrian event at Wembley and some b*stard told me her father Prince Philip wanted a word with me. So I go up to this private section and tap him on the shoulder which apparently is an absolute no-no with royalty. He turns around and looks at me like he's just stepped in something. I said `I believe you summoned me Sir' and he says ``what on earth for?'' He was a real snob. It was very embarrassing."
That bloke who set them both up had a great sense of humour. Two men with pretty large egos.

Prince Andrew’s record at school. A 2 part feature on Channel 4 with HRH tonight and a look back on his disastrous interview, which wasn't nearly as bad as the media make out. It was just that his indifferent reference to his friendship with Epstein didn't go far enough for the media in remorse. Some training in phoney Blairite acting might have produced a beneficial veneer of contrition though patently superficial. It also has interviews with people who knew him during his childhood, schooling and military training although I'll be amazed if cricket gets a mention.
