To be fair, I think we only signed him on a contract for the last part of the 2019 season. I assume we went into the deal knowing he might move on at the end of a short-term agreement. Maybe, you know more than I do and some promises weren’t kept but you can’t blame sportsmen for wanting to compete at the highest levels. Rightly or wrongly, he might have thought Surrey was a better option at that stage of his career. |

Can't blame Topley for doing this. He wanted to play at the top level and maximise his income. The problem lies with the Sussex management. Andrew and Greenfield should have been more diligent with his contractual details. Unfortunately there is very little player loyalty to Club these days. |

He left Hants in a huff because he wasn’t selected for the 50 over finals, even threw his winners medal in the bin in font of his team mates! Hants made it very clear that they didn’t want him around. Sussex took him on on a one year deal on the understanding that it would be extended should he get back to full fitness. While at Sussex he used our physios, health insurance for scans etc, was housed and generally made very welcome. Sussex were very keen to keep him and offered him a very good deal. Obviously we can’t compete with the likes of Surrey.
Surrey are welcome to him.
