Free from the spin given by some journalists, here's what Tymal himself has been posting about his discussions with "the staff at Sussex and the medical people" www.kicca.com/tmills15/posts/5576ee5caed1d9261294cf7dSo, whatever the cause, and regardless of how much was known about his condition before signing for Sussex, it sounds as if he will play through the T20 season - which is positive news for that competition - and then possibly in the 50 over matches and so on. It doesn't sound very inspiring for anyone hoping to see him play through an arduous 4 day match though, so we probably will need to go shopping again next winter for a championship bowler. and a championship batter, and a championship spinner

Quoted on the ECB website today:
“All my eggs are in one basket as I am only playing Twenty20 so to be taking wickets quite regularly is nice. As my focus is just on this competition it means I've got all week to prepare.
“I can see all the footage of who we're playing against and come up with different plans to get them out. I have got a lot of time to think about it and that has helped me.
“The back injury is still there so I won't be playing any first class cricket for the rest of the season so if we don't do well in the white ball stuff my season could be done by mid-August.”

What's the latest? Will he actually play any first class cricket in the foreseeable future?

Tim Wigmore used his time at Hove very effectively this week, not only writing far more perceptively and with much greater colour than the usual ECB homogenised match reports, but also contributing an excellent analysis of Ollie Robinson, and now a fascinating interview with Tymal Mills www.espncricinfo.com/natwest-t20-blast-2016/content/story/1022293.htmlMills comes across as intelligent, self-aware and very much motivated to make the best of his situation. It is interesting that Wigmore presents it as a done deal that Mills has effectively retired from first-class cricket and that this was clear from 14 May last year. It was very much a part of the former coach's dead-bat technique to the media that he would not accept that Mills would never play first-clas cricket: it was always going to be "re-assessed" at some constantlky shifting point in the future. Anothe telling quote, especiallyn a club that struggles to find its place in a period of rapid and dynamic change in economics and media presentation is this: "In a cricketing culture famed for conservatism, the old rules - that reputation is garnered solely through hard-won results in the shires - have been thrown out for Mills, who has induced excitement far out of proportion to his still underwhelming statistics." Good luck to Mills and hope he continues to excite and to achieve.

Good luck to Mills and hope he continues to excite and to achieve. This was directly contradicted by Mills who did a commentary stint on BBC Radio last month and said that he's buidling up strength and taking it one step at a time but hopes by 2017 to be cleared to play in the long form game again. He also said that the remedial work was under the direction of England as much as Sussex and the day after his commentary stint he said he was off to Loughborough for a few days work under Kevin Shine. His long spell in the commentary box (I think he may have done it at least twice, actually) confirmed your assessment that he is "intelligent" and "self-aware". He wasn't just chatting between deliveries. He took over the descriptive ball-by-ball stuff from Adrian H and was quite excellent at it...

Mills is due to be named in the England T20 squad tomorrow, reportedly...
If true, it is fortunate that there is only the one T20 international v SL on July 5, and so it doesn't seem he would miss any Sussex games.
Jordan, on the other hand, will be in both the 50 over and T20 squads and will miss the four day games at Arundel and v Glamorgan at Hove and at least three T20s.
Not surprised about Mills. He said on the radio last month that his strength and fitness programme/rehab was being organised by England rather than by Sussex and that he was working with Kevin Shine, the England fast bowling coach. Sounds like there has been a long-term plan to get him into the side, otherwise they wouldn't have invested all that time and effort. Bowling at Gayle on TV the other night was his 'live' audition, I guess - and he passed it spectacularly.

Very pleased for Tymal, I hope he gets an oppertunity to show what he can do. It shouldn't impact on Sussex as there's only 1 T20 v Sri Lanka and 1 v Pakistan.

The T20 squad picked is just for the 5th July game against Sri Lanka. Preceding is the 1 July T20 against Middlesex at Hove, and following is the 7 July T20 against Glamorgan away. I hope ECB aren't too protective about him and will let him play T20 for Sussex up to and including that 1 July game.

Surely, it's a dead cert that Mills will be leaving Sussex at the end of the season. He always comes over as a nice guy with a potential future career in the media. A recent interview is below. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/37276242

New one-year contract just announced Sussex CCC @sussexccc 4m4 minutes ago BREAKING NEWS: We're delighted to confirm that @tmills15 has signed a new one-year contract at The @1stcentral County Ground #GOSBTS www.sussexcricket.co.uk/news-1/contract-news-tymal-mills-signs-new-deal-with-sussexOn Edit: Just a thought, but I wonder if short-term contracts are likely to be the rule rather than exception from now on for predominately or exclusively white-ball players who are looking at opportunities post-2017?

Given England have now got hold of him and are putting an awful lot of money and resources into him I think its a good signing for Sussex. There is an interesting video on the ECB YouTube channel showing the work they've done with him in depth to help combat his fitness problems.
I'd imagine it would have been a much better contract as well now for Sussex now he will only play T20 cricket.
