The best hope of any silverware coming to Hove this season has always been the T20 Blast. The problem with T20 games is that they can turn on a few sixes, a skier that plops into a hole in the field or one loose over. For the last three seasons, Sussex have succeeded in qualifying from the group stage of the competition. In 2018, Sussex fell at the last hurdle when losing to Worcestershire by 5 wickets defending a total of 157. In 2019, Sussex lost to Worcestershire again, on this occasion at the Quarter Final stage. The Sussex target of 187 was surpassed as Moeen Ali scored 120 not out at Hove. Last season, Sussex again fell at the Quarter Final stage at the hands of Lancashire. Chasing 140, Sussex crumbled to 95 all out.
Gloucestershire, the first opponents in this season's T20 campaign, are no mugs. They won the Central Group last season comfortably recording 7 wins out of 9 completed games. They eventually fell at the Semi Final stage when losing to Surrey in a game reduced to 11 overs. In 2019, Gloucestershire proved their strength as they finished one point behind Sussex in the Southern Group. Make no mistake, this first game will be a tough one.
Ian Cockbain and Chris Dent were Gloucestershire's highest run scorers last season with 399 and 371 runs respectively, both scoring at a rate of over 150 per 100 balls. Sussex-born, Tom Smith, was arguably their most successful bowler, taking 14 wickets, but conceding runs at under a run per ball.
Can Sussex start positively with a win? We are just going to have to wait and see, I guess.
Southern Group fixtures on Friday 11th June
Somerset v Surrey (Taunton) Essex v Hampshire (Chelmsford) Kent v Middlesex (Canterbury) No game: Glamorgan

Looking at the 2 possible sides above, it probably won’t happen atm, but would be really interesting to see how Jamie Atkins would get on in the T20 side.
Really impressed so far.

We look a little light in the bowling department don't we? Mills, Garton and Jordan will need to bowl well, and hopefully young Jack Carson can back them up leaving 4 overs to come from a combination of Beer, Wiese and Rawlins
Having written that up, it does not look so bad anymore. As you were!

As you were! I think we still miss Laurie Evans in the batting department. I'm interested to see how Travis Head performs. Maybe, he will find less pressure swishing about than everyone expect a ton when he bats. Whether we miss Danny Briggs will depend on how Carson (if he plays) bears up under the pressure of T20. To me, the side looks weaker than the one which qualified from the Group but lost twice in the quarter-finals and lost once in the final under Gillespie. Last season, I always felt games hinged on whether Salt and Wright succeeded or failed. If one of them comes off, we are likely to win.

How about giving Ollie Robinson a go?

Wright has split some webbing so think he might be out. Could Stiaan have a go again as cover? Did well with Nash a few years back.

There are 9 bowlers to call on in that team!
Luke Wright is a now doubt for the first few games as he’s split the webbing on his hand during fielding practice yesterday and has had to have stitches in it. I would guess Haines or Thomason will come in for him as van Zyl can’t play because we already have 2 overseas. Travis Head is the obvious captain.

Bad luck for Luke Wright and Sussex.
You never know, it could be the making of Travis Head.

philh,
For me the strength of the side and its success will hinge on whether Head and Bopara come to the party. Last season Bopara never left Chelmsford. If both do well, then Evans won't be missed.

If Wright misses out it will be Salt, Head, Bopara, Rawlins, Wiese, Jordan, Garton, Beer, Mills
Plus two from Carter, Crocombe, Lenham and Thomason. I suspect Crocombe and Thomason (for Wright).

Wright is listed in the squad, no mention of his injury.

No Wright or Mills for Sussex or Higgins for Gloucestershire. Jordan captains Sussex.
