After a whirlwind five and a bit overs at The Oval last night that came to nothing, Sussex return to Hove for a game against Somerset. It looks as though the weather is going to determine the outcome of this game, which means that points are likely to be shared for the second consecutive day.
Somerset have only played three games so far, gaining just one win. The win came against Kent at Taunton where they inflicted Kent's only defeat in five outings. In that game, Somerset posted a healthy total of 204, largely thanks to Tom Abell and Lewis Goldsworthy scoring 68 and 48 respectively at a decent rate in the middle overs. Kent fell short by 47 runs and never looked likely winners once Zak Crawley had departed having scored 48. Marchant de Lange mopped up with 3-18 as Kent were squeezed out.
In Somerset's two other games, they batted first and set decent targets each time that were surpassed. Against Surrey, a target of 188 was overtaken with 4 overs to spare while Essex faced a target of 186 which they reached with 3 wickets to spare and less than two overs.
Tom Abell has been the most successful batsman over the three games but runs have been shared around as Somerset have achieved totals of over 180 in each game. Taking wickets has proved more difficult for Somerset; Marchant de Lange and Josh Davey have taken most wickets, although not cheaply.
The weather looks like to ruin chances of playing. Will there be a game tonight? I guess we will just have to wait and see.
