Three games in a row rained off and as I type it is raining again, although the forecast for Friday evening looks to be good enough.
The visitors to Hove are Gloucestershire who are on a good run. In their last three completed games, they have recorded three wins over Glamorgan, Kent and Middlesex. Their win over Kent, who were League leaders going into the game, on Tuesday this week was most impressive as they stormed home by 8 wickets with over 6 overs to spare. The win put Gloucestershire on top of the table, although they have played one more game than Kent and two more than Sussex. Gloucestershire followed this up by scoring 216 for 2 against Glamorgan, a total Glamorgan were on course to challenge until Marnus Labuschagne was out at 123 with 8 overs remaining. In their total of 216, Glenn Phillips scored 94 not out in 41 balls and Benny Howell scored 53 not out in 33 balls as Gloucestershire accelerated in the second half of their innings.
Josh Shaw has been Gloucestershire's most successful bowling taking 9 wickets at just over 7 per over. However, they have found it hard to contain teams, conceding over 175 in all but one game, the victory over Kent.
A win over Gloucestershire will lift Sussex above their opponents with two games in hand. Recent T20 games against Gloucestershire have been close games generally with the team batting second coming out winners in the last five games. A return to the top is possible for Sussex, but that will be dependent on Kent's result at Chelmsford. Can Sussex record their fourth win and remain undefeated this season in the T20 Blast? We are just going to have to wait and see, I guess.
