This has to be “the controversy” of the season. Barely a mizzle and the umpires take the players off at 4.5 overs. One more ball and Sussex would win on DLS if no more play. Umpires leave field with loud boos from home crowd. Even Rob Andrew looks mystified by decision. For the umpires sake let us hope there is further play. If not their decision could rumble on. Utterly disgraceful. Now pouring. Get the lynch mob ready. 😏 Umpires came off because Salt and Wright were hit on the helmet because it was clearly way too dark. Would we have won if two wickets were down? I don't see why they didn't reduce the overs from 20 to 10 rather than stupidly extending the playing time by an hour. To extend the playing time by an hour was asking for this to happen.

There was absolutely nothing that would have prevented them finishing that over. Sure nobody wants to see a batsman getting clonked on the side of the head or another Philip Hughes incident but still some common sense should be applied here, the conditions were not that dangerous at the time.

If a Sussex batsman got hit on the head for a third time and the Sussex player suffered a long-term head injury the ECB would have had a massive insurance liability claim against them. Two separate Sussex batsmen have been hit on the head in quick succession which clearly demonstrates that the playing conditions were not up to the required level and therefore the umpires had absolutely no choice but to bring them off. It is the absolutely ridiculous extension of the playing time by an hour that has cost any chance of a result in this match.

I’ve always thought five overs is a ridiculous minimum length for a game, particularly when Duckworth Lewis applies. I think the umpires were trying to balance fairness, the hits on the helmets and current weather. The rules are wrong and a point apiece is fair if there’s no more play.

Nonsense about being too dark. Wright walked into ball and he was fine. Nothing to do with that. All about a bit of mizzle. So why come off with just one ball left of the over?
Crowd fury at Hove. Don’t blame them. In all my years of watching cricket never seen such an appalling decision.
Match now abandoned. One point each. Ridiculous!!!😡😡

Don’t blame them. In all my years of watching cricket never seen such an appalling decision. Match now abandoned. One point each. Ridiculous!!!😡😡 It was far too dark and it was dangerous, as evidenced by the fact that both Sussex opening batsmen were hit on the helmet in quick succession. They should have taken off the ball before. What you should be questioning is why was the playing time extended by an hour? Had the cut-off remained as 5:15pm and it had been 10 overs a side you would have got a result.

Whatever way you look at it, this is not good. Why was the playing time extended? Who decides this? When Wright got hit, there were 2 balls to go. Why let 1 extra be bowled and then call it off? Agree about player safety, but the way batsman move around the crease these days in T20 they are bound to get hit more often. Umpires got this all wrong. Let's hope this doesn't cost us.

It's the s**t weather that's really costing us. Umpires haven't got crystal balls. Although it's the rule, the five over thing isn't fair - ten overs maybe. English summers suck a**e, unfortunately.
Heard Morgan name check Mills. If he can actually complete a campaign fully, which I think he's yet to do, he might get in the England side. Amazed Garton wasn't given a gig in this recent T20 series instead of Willey, especially when it's the T20 he's been impressing in. They know all they need to know about Willey.
More rain Tuesday probably. The weather should be ashamed of itself. The best consistent run of sunshine we've had in years was April/May/June 2020 - when we were locked down and not allowed to play cricket.
Weather, you a**e h**e. If God's in charge of this stuff, he's gonna pay, if I'm allowed in his crib.

I don't understand about this "too dark" point. The floodlights were full on, for example.

We are Sussex supporters so not happy. However a farce a game decided on 5 overs when other side has faced 20. Different if 5 overs each.

Agree but sure rules dont allow common sense decision, 100% certain to rain later so could have agreed 10 over game at start

Had Sussex lost a wicket to the final ball of 5th over it would have been a tie.
