Dare I say it? It looks as though the weather will be kind to us for this game and Sussex will get the chance to win for the fourth time this season in the T20 Blast. With five games left to play in the group stages, Sussex have little scope for off days. The game at Lord's against Middlesex looks winnable, but nothing is certain in T20 - as we found when the umpires led the players off the field after Sussex had faced 4.5 overs on Sunday.
Middlesex have lifted themselves off the bottom of the table, but have a lot of work to do to qualify for the knockout phase, probably requiring at least four wins out of five. Their game with Hampshire on Monday was washed out, but they won convincingly on Monday against Glamorgan. Having amassed 170, Glamorgan were unable to restrict the Middlesex batsmen as they crossed the line with 7 wickets to spare and just over 2 overs in hand. Stevie Eskinazi scored a match-winning 91 not out and Daryl Mitchell crashed 32 from 13 balls to ensure a Middlesex win. Earlier, Mitchell had picked up three Glamorgan wickets as Glamorgan scored quickly in the final overs.
However, Middlesex have only recorded one other win from eight completed games; that came in a earlier match when they chased down Hampshire's 215 to gain a narrow victory. In fairness, Middlesex have regularly scored well. Besides a bad defeat at Cardiff, they have regularly posted around 170-odd. However, they have struggled to defend the totals they have scored. Eskinazi and Mitchell have the standout batsmen, while Steven Finn has picked up 13 wickets albeit at 9 per over.
Sussex have won their last five games against Middlesex, mainly convincingly, in the T20 Blast. Can Sussex go to the Lord's and pick up a much-needed win? We are just going to have to wait and see, I guess.
