You might expect meteorologists to start to predict the weather based on whether Sussex are playing white ball cricket at home. Hopefully, the sun will shine as Sussex travel west along the A27 to face our neighbours from Hampshire.
After a narrow defeat against Lancashire and a washout on Sunday, Sussex will be keen to get some points on the board for their third fixture in the Royal London One Day Cup, particularly as only the top three sides qualify for the latter stages of the competition. Hampshire may consider themselves to be in a similar position after losing their first game to Essex by 3 wickets. In that game, Essex passed the Hampshire total of 273 with just over five overs to spare.
Despite losing two early wickets, Essex progressed steadily with everyone contributing some runs, although it needed an unbroken partnership of 50+ by Simon Harmer and Aron Nijjar for the eighth wicket to steer Essex over the line. Earlier Nick Gubbins, Joe Weatherley and Lewis McManus had all passed 50 in Hampshire's innings, but Gubbins was the highest scorer with 62 as no one went on to get a big score.
Ollie Robinson returns to the Sussex fold to give our bowling a bit more bite; you are left to wonder whether we would have managed a win if Robinson had been in the team at Sedbergh against Lancashire.
A win would put Sussex in a decent position to have a go at making the top three whereas a defeat would make it a tough road ahead. Can Sussex make it 3 points from 3 games? I don't see why not.
Current table
Essex P2 4 Pts Lancashire P2 4 Pts Durham P2 3 Pts Worcestershire P1 2 Pts Sussex P2 1 Pt Gloucestershire P1 0 Pts Hampshire P1 0 Pts Kent P2 0 Pts Middlesex P1 0 Pts
Upcoming fixtures
Gloucestershire v Worcestershire (Tuesday - Bristol) Middlesex v Durham (Tuesday - Radlett) Kent v Lancashire (Wednesday - Beckenham) Durham v Gloucestershire (Thursday - Scarborough) Essex v Worcestershire (Thursday - Chelmsford)

The longer the season goes on the more I’m losing interest.
Why sack Brown now? Why not wait till the end of the year? It just destabilises the club like a rudderless ship.
He may not have been the best captain but he could have done a job till the end of the year. It’s not as if we are pushing for silverware in this or the CC. He is also one of the few batters who’s been consistently making runs and should be playing in these games.
Robinson out of the squad as he joins up with England ahead of the Test match.
Not sure I care if we win or lose to be honest.

Nothing at stake in CC this season.

I would drop Clark and Ward and bring in Orr and Wiese. My XI would be Orr, Haines (c), Head, Wiese, Carter wk, Coles, Ibrahim, Beer, Lenham, Crocombe, Sarro

Not looking great at the moment. 197 for 7 off 36, chasing 329. Too much pressure on the lower order at the moment. Oh dear another wicket goes. We didn't bowl or field well enough. There were some strange bowling changes. Both Coles and Beer should have bowled their full quota. A big score was needed by one of our senior batsmen; unfortunately it didn't happen. Hope the management are patient. This has not been one of our better performances. Orr has to start in the next game.

As predictable as it was depressing. Men against boys. Outplayed with bat, ball and in the field.
A friend who was at the game said Sussex were very quiet in the field and most didn’t look as if they wanted to be there.

Joe, They're boys against men. All these kids are shell shocked. Week after week of playing seasoned pros getting battered, it's going to have an effect. Most haven't played much or any 50 over cricket, even in 2nd's. What makes Salisbury think they're going to crack it in the 1st team? No apprenticeship. You need some grounding, surely? Haines, captain? He's never captained a proper team as far as I know. Why? He has no leadership experience. His batting yesterday showed signs of being under pressure. Timid and unsure. He's been good in the CC, is Salisbury determined to lose that? If you're going to make him captain in the future get someone to mentor him? Head, SA captain, Aust VC, Beer done multi times in the 2nd's and every team he's played in. 2 guys to learn from? These young guys are NOT improving, they are going backwards. Some might not recover from these hammerings. They're quite because most are boys and don't know how to react. Nothing to draw on. Salisbury should be considering his future, if he's not, Andrew should be. Brown, for me, never was a good appointment. Hardly captained a team, defensive mind, not inspirational, too much to do just keeping! Nice man though,

Come on Grandavefan - weirdest name ever by the way. The youth have been excellent, the one shining light and you're battering them after one bad game - where some of them excelled again anyway. Nobody's been getting battered and anyone who's ever captained has done it for the first time. He has Head, Beer and Weise to turn to. How can you say they're 'NOT' improving? You're crazy man. And the alternative is what, anyway? Brown and VZ? They need guiding for sure. Head, Weise and Beer's job right there.

Exactly Ash, same for all just a bit more of a burden for some, like us. Lucky we have loads of top young players to call on.
