www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/58033393I suppose we shouldn't be surprised that a leading English cricketer has felt the need to prioritise his mental health. There is far too much cricket played at the top level - the ECB continues to churn out exhausting schedules of test matches, ODis and T20is, and then expects these players to show their faces in The Hundred. Add to this the pressures of Covid bubbles, and you can see why some players are beginning to say enough is enough. No-one could doubt Stokes' strength, resolve and commitment so it's a bit of a shock that he's jumping off the treadmill for a while. Good luck to him, and let's hope he recovers soon. Please - let's not hear anyone decrying the absence of a stiff upper lip, or invoking the Woke word! I gather the ECB is already struggling to organise this winter's Ashes tour, as a result of player protests. Despite their fine words, they always put commercial gain first, and if that means some players fall by the wayside, then there's plenty more available on the county circuit -survival of the fittest, old chap.

Surely, the ECB are desperate to earn money during Covid? If the ECB goes broke so does county cricket. Hence, the gruelling schedule.

Yes, they are desperate - hence the unreasonable pressure on players. I don't believe other cricketing countries have such a crowded schedule, do they? Ruthless people behind those posh smiles.

Hasn't he just had three months off cos of a sore finger? Must have liked it, and who wouldn't? Most of us get two weeks.
It's becoming a card to play, and there are no questions asked off the back of it cos you might make people cry. I'm sure there's a word for it.

Fingers - if not broken - tend to be useful when playing cricket.. 🤨

It's irrelevant what it was. The important bit is that he's had three of the last four months off - no bubbles or quarantining, just full pay, family and friends, presumably. Three months off, back for a month, want more time off? P45's in the post in any other walk of life.

Reading your rather unempathetic post I have to ask - are you really Piers Morgan? 😉 NB Interesting you seem to know so much about his living arrangements - you are either a stalker or you are just guessing!

A mental illness is just as valid as a physical injury and should be treated the same.
There are many examples in cricket where it’s all got too much for players mentally, Trescothic, Trott and our very own Michael Yardy spring to mind. It’s not a weakness to admit to it, it’s self preservation. Suicide is the biggest killer of men between the ages of 18-30.

Why is it relevant? The type of injury has absolutely nothing to do with the point - the fact he's just had loads of time off. What he's doing is irrelevant too. I know what you're doing - not quarantining or bubbling and spending time with your friends and family. Nice tie by the way.

Here's a question for those tempted to criticise Stokes- how should we treat mental illness when it stops you doing your job properly? a) Tell them to pull themselves together. b) Sack them. c) Get a doctor to diagnose their condition. d) Other

Cricket - and society - used to treat mental illness rather more harshly. Which is why a book like this could be written. I hope there is never the need for a second volume...

I suspect Stokes, Durham and England have chose D - D being nothing. If anybody chooses the smiley face they might be taking the p**s. I would be considerably more sympathetic if Stokes hadn't just had three quarantine-free family friendly months off. That's the key here. Like if it was Buttler or someone, yeah, have a good break. These people like Stokes, Peaty, Biles... aren't mentally ill. I wish they'd just say 'I'm shagged-out and I'm having a long holiday.'

Here is Paul Joseph Watson's video take on sports/mental ill-health in general, using the recent example of American gymnast Simone Biles, as his introduction. I keep an open mind on the subject as each person is an individual and therefore each mental ill-health problem is different. www.subscribestar.com/posts/387936
