Seems pointless with Robinson, he's England's now. Jordan, we've had the best of him, could see him back at Surrey for the money. Salt, that ain't great. Young, approaching his best, probably never play for England again cos of how good they are, other than tests, where he won't be anyway. Would offer him a new bumper deal and the captaincy in all forms personally. Big offer, go Adams on his arse.

Yes slightly worrying that there could be further players out of the door - not least because 3 of those mentioned are key players in our T20 squad and the other is one of the best bowlers on the county circuit, albeit we might not see much of him if he’s away with England.
Now you could break it down and make a case for 3 of them not being a huge loss (Bopara, Jordan and Robinson), but even so, losing any of these on top of last year’s departures and it does beg the question of quite what is going on? Yes there are the financial ramifications of covid and yes we have some highly promising youngsters coming through, but you need experience and proven quality to go alongside the young players, or it can get a bit demoralising, and what about the morale of the members/supporters? Nothing good about losing more and more players.
1996/7 anyone….?

I'm wondering if the financial crisis in cricket is reinforcing the gap between the rich and poor counties. Will we end up with 2 divisions again? This would have the effect of concentrating the talent in Div 1, thus improving the quality of red ball cricket at the top county level. This could then improve the standard of our test cricket.
I'm trying to take the macro view here, despite my Sussex loyalties.

Should never have gone away from two divs, bring it back. No idea what this latest nonsense is about. What's a macro as well? Stop making words up Flash.

Bristol and Durham? Newcastle maybe. Time to bring in a transfer market I reckon, seriously. The ECB could and should do that, but do they want to save Sussex & Co? No. That rhymed and I wasn't even trying.

I am reliably informed that CJ to Surrey on a white ball contract is a done deal. Apparently Salt up north was a long time coming and Davies moving was the last piece of the puzzle allowing it.

The word is fast bowler Liam Plunkett might also be on his way if Surrey can talk Sussex’s Chris Jordan into returning to the Oval.
Some will question how much Surrey might see of Jordan, who is a white-ball regular for England and vital player for Southern Brave in The Hundred. But it’s hard to imagine him making fewer than the five appearances a season Plunkett has averaged since moving down from Yorkshire three years ago.

I’m not surprised by Salt going, he was always going to go to the first test match ground who offered. He’s a showman who needs a big stage.
I am surprised in Jordan. He’s very settled here especially since Jofra came. They both have apartments in the same block in Hove and share pet care. If he does go it can’t be a career move because he’s not going to improve on what he does now. It surely can’t be a money move, he’s picked up by all the franchises around the world, I can’t believe he’s short of a few bob.

Very disappointing, especially given that Surrey got rid of Jordan years ago, so we turn him into an international cricketer - much to their embarrassment - only for him to go back there 😡 As someone said - when will they see him other than in T20?

I think you should start questioning Greenfield & Andrew who over the past 2 years have dismantled a very exciting squad and left us with a kindergarten of raw, immature, naive and in some cases not very good young players. Bottom of the CC and without a captain capable of captaining. RLDC performance that was poorly lead at times. (Haines is just out of his depth, not a natural leader or tactician). Lucky to have the support of Head, Beer & Brown. But Haines has the potential to be top class batsmen. Does he need the burden of captaincy? NO. A T20 team lacking a batter, but surprisingly resilient, have managed to give some pride to the club. More players could leave. I'm sure the management have some players they're after? I'm struggling to think of any that might improve the team(s)? The better ones have already gone. Well done to Greenfield & Andrew, destroying the club almost overnight. Come on committee stand up and get rid of the dead wood at the top.

The only positive I can see from the Andrew interview is him saying we will be actively recruiting players, which hasn't happened in the last few years.
Hopefully we'll go for replacements for Jordan and Salt who play all forms of cricket and will therefore make us more competitive in the 4 day game.
If we knew Salt was leaving, we should have been in the market for a player such as Gubbins.
No doubt knowing our recent recruitment we'll end up with another washed up white ball specialist like Dernbach.
