Having dented Worcestershire's hopes of progressing to the latter stages of the Royal London One Day Cup, Sussex have the opportunity to damage Essex's lofty position in the next RLODC game. Essex have won four of their five games with the sixth in progress right now against Durham (Sunday 8th). Coincidentally, Essex's only defeat was a hefty loss by 182 runs to Worcestershire. Essex have won all their four victories when batting second with two convincing 9-wicket victories over Kent and Middlesex.
Skipper Tom Westley and Alastair Cook have scored the bulk of Essex's runs while Simon Harmer and Ryan ten Doeschate have taken wickets at under 18 apiece. Their top wicket-taker, though is Shane Snater, who has bagged 13 wickets in the competition.
Sussex have almost no chance of qualifying for the knockout stage of the competition and will no doubt reflect on what might have been if they had managed to reverse the result one or both of their two narrow defeats.
Can Sussex go to Chelmsford and bring home two points? It's certainly possible.
League table before Sunday's results
Lancashire P7 8 Pts Essex P5 8 Pts Durham P5 7 Pts Worcestershire P7 7 Pts Gloucestershire P6 6 Pts Hampshire P6 5 Pts Middlesex P6 5 Pts Sussex P6 4 Pts Kent P6 4 Pts

Orr Haines Brown Head Coles Carter Ibrahim Carson Beer Lenham Hunt I would go with this eleven but with Wiese in the squad instead of Carson I see one change from the above eleven.

Essex finish on 321-8.
Absolute carnage in the last 5/6 overs.

Too many for us to chase down I fear.
Probably, playing against one of the stronger sides in the Competition today, Cook, Westley, ten Doeschate, Wheater, Harmer and Walter. Ironic, the two kids albeit on the back of a hundred partnership against Durham were their top scorers.
There have been many positives in this Tournament from a Sussex perspective, some outstanding performances from 'Project Youth', some entertaining and competitive performances, Head finally looking like the oversea's player we were expecting and an opportunity for Haines to Captain (but please don't push him into the Championship role yet).
The big negative has been the quality of our seam attack. Admittedly, not helped by the lack of availablity of Atkins and Head through injury. Wiese is first change at best and as I have stated in other posts, Crocombe and Sarro are still somewhat off in terms of their development. Can't understand how Hunt didn't get into the starting eleven today given he is now fit again.
Hoping that Orr, Brown, Haines, Head, Coles and Carter can pull off something special.

Severe lack of bowling experience in the last 10. Chasing 300 is a tough ask; especially when the recognised bats are not doing it. Feel a bit sorry for the young middle, lower order. They feel the pressure to keep up with the run rate, and hence play unnecessary risky shots. Management need to coach them to be there with 8 overs to go and then take it from there. They are good enough. Seam bowling needs sorting out. Hunt must still be injured, Atkins still injured. Big worry over these two and injuries. Sarro is not consistent and lacks control.Crocombe is shell shocked, but a decent prospect. Young Ibrahim bowled well today; good control. Why isn't the skipper Haines bowling his medium pace? We look well placed for spin; no problem there. Looking forward to Middlesex on Thursday.

Essex hammered Yorkshire today. Just give these Sussex lads a couple more years.
