This upper class oaf, son of a High Court Judge and nephew of a Baron who received the poshest education available and was commissioned into the Army as an Officer to fight Blair's inane wars in Afghanistan and Iraq was an agent of government policy which might explain his discredited Blairite ideology when it comes to Israel, EU, social liberalism and nutty foreign policy.
Look, maybe the US were right to invade Afghanistan when they believed Bin Laden was being shielded by Al Qaeda there, but they were wrong to be sucked into a prolonged war with the Taliban along with the UK which we were never going to win, which cost the UK taxpayer £billions and loss of soldiers lives, although why they wanted to remain as armed personnel under a mad neocon New Labour Govt only they can answer.
And for Tugendhat and other (Blairite) Conservatives to blame Biden for throwing in the towel instead of flogging a dead horse is disingenuous as well they know. It was Trump who rightly or wrongly signed a deal with the Taliban last year to scale back remaining US troops in Afghanistan and since then the Taliban has made advances so Biden's hands were tied. It was a no brainer pulling out as the Afghan govt didn't have the appetite to fight the Taliban compounded with the ongoing cost to America plus the potential loss of lives. The US withdrawal meant the UK had no option but to follow suit so Boris Johnson is blameless. Only sanctimonious fools like Tugendtw@t are trying to make political capital where none exists.
