Well done Sussex. Great start. I hope Middlesex don't win this game. A brainless declaration could come back and haunt them; hopefully.

Wonderful start, never easy having been hoofed to all parts of Hove for almost 2 days. Really happy to see Haines back in the runs, and Orr provided a watchful foil to make it clear that someone is getting the message across about the value of a batsmen's wicket in the four day game. Well done to both openers. I hope Tom gets a good nights sleep, he has earned it after a day of tough captaincy and then a great knock.

Got them on the ropes now. Featherbed, looks like an absolute featherbed. Poor for cricket, leave some grass on Grounders. The run machine Haines looked nice and fluent but had some luck from what I saw. Orr looks massively impressive to me. Haines and Orr at the Ashes?
What was wrong with the deco Sponjo? Not soon enough?
I remember that Glammy one, James wasn't it? We had Kirtley, Lewry and M-J running in then too I reckon.
Anywho, close on 550 tomorrow, add a quick 250 by three on Thursday, roll them over with Carson and Rawlins in 50 overs by close. Easy game.
Worrying to me that Garton isn't bowling. He's basically our best bowler in the eleven and we seem happy to let him become a T20 specialist, do we? If so, play a batsman in the CC.

Yep, triple century from James, century from Matt Elliott…and we’d put them in.

The Middlesex declaration makes little sense to me unless Murtagh is chasing records rather than victories. He is obviously banking on an innings victory. If Sussex only achieve a low score, a declaration at 450-500 would have given him the choice of batting again or enforcing the follow-up with bowlers who may not be too tired. If Sussex score 450, say, it would mean his bowlers would have been out in the sun for well over a day, making the follow-on tough work on them. I can only assume he thought that keeping Sussex out in the field would wear them down. As for taking 9 balls after tea before declaring, I'm lost as to what he was thinking. I hope we get the draw out of this.

(BBC Website) All Sussex supporters must own a Playfair Annual, there was a generous round of applause when they completed their record opening partnership and record total. I'll hold back from checking the Sussex record opening partnership for a while.

Ah, I did one of them goat things on Orr. Sorry Orr.
Another ton for Tommy. What a year, criticised by some last year for being too inconsistent at the ripe old age of 21. What's he averaging this season? Got to be on a Lions tour this winter, at least. One of the bright lights on the row of bombed houses in County Championship Road, Hove.
Can't see anything wrong with the deco myself - seven consecutive sessions to bowl out a side twice on a road. As for a few balls after tea - innovative. Try and catch the oppo by surprise. I like it, Murtagh for England.

What an absolute road! This might be one of those games where the captains wish they could shake hands at stumps today.

Anyone know why Delray batted so low down the order?

Anyone know why Delray batted so low down the order? Based on performance, it looked about the right place.

Who's going to bet on Sussex gaining a draw tomorrow? Having said that a few forecast intermittent showers might help, but, come on, if the side can achieve a draw, what a result! Logic says it should all be over by tea at the latest. On the positive, well done Tom Haines for another century. This really has been a breakthrough season for him.
