Shock horror, apparently W Indians are more interested in football and rugby and S Asians prioritise education. And these self evident truths from Mike O'Farrell got him hauled over the coals so he felt compelled to eat humble pie.
Football and to a lesser extent rugby are more popular with white Brits so I don't know how his O'Farrell's first statement had racist overtones although he could have replaced rugby with basketball. At least the Pakistani and Indian British do turn up at test matches to support their countries of heritage unlike the W Indians where the numbers decreased in the 80s to practically zilch from the 90s onwards.
Ricardo Ellcock in the Mail comes out with the usual chip on shoulder rhetoric which might have some merit if he had found his way blocked after retiring as a player to go into coaching or cricket admin. But instead he wanted a career in aviation which is fair enough, but to blame institutional racism for lack of progress when he seemingly hasn't done much to promote the game within his own community is a bit rich.
Unless the cricket authorities can speak their minds without being condemned by the pc brigade and BAMEs out of hand there's always going to be a problem. Maybe we should introduce racial quotas like S Africa? Still wouldn't satisfy the angry brigade as being too patronising.

Which you can do any time you like. And it wasn't anyway. Get a grip Gord.
They don't find endless quota systems patronising throughout the rest of UK society so why would they in sport? Of course what 'they' think is dictated by privileged liberals, that's what they should be patronised by.
I'm gonna go a step too far here - white kids are also more interested in football. Believe it or not, it's all a class issue. It always has been and it always will be.

Yes I do think, which is why I said they have quotas in place and have had for ages. As has public sector management and all media. I know what you were being Tiptoes, and it was more sarcastic than Ironic. Seems you don't know what I was being.
I'm gonna put a quota system out for your brain. Yeah I dunno what that means either.

I don’t like quotas and I don’t like ‘all women shortlists’, let’s have the best man for the job, in the broadest sense of the word man. Otherwise when a woman or someone from an ethnic minority gets the gig they have the suspicion they only did so because of their sex or race hanging over them.

Agreed Mrs Doyle. If the best fit happens to a black man, white woman, or a dolphin in a tank top - it don't matter. The best fit bit is the key. And not fitting on a check list. Quotas breed suspicion, controversy and inadequacy.
I know because I put a quota system out on Tiptoes' brain and it came back with suspicion, controversy and inadequacy. You couldn't make it up.
P.S. If you don't know what I'm talking about it's either because I've gone nuts or Tiptoes deleted a post.
