I've just had a phone call with the very sad news that Mike Tarrant (flashblade) passed away this morning after a brief illness with cancer. I know Mike was an avid contributor to the messageboard with well considered contributions.
I will personally miss Mike enormously as we regularly chatted through championship matches as well as discussing many other issues and keeping in touch out of season. I know many others will also miss him as he was such a pleasant and affable person. A reliable friend and just great to be with or talk to in person or online.

This is very sad news. I am sure I echo the thoughts of many on this forum that Mike was not only an excellent contributor to the forum but was extremely likeable. RIP Mike. A very sad loss.

This is awful and shocking news.
Mike joined the Forum around 2010 and went on to become one of the most active and more eloquent posters. He was an integral part of this Message board and was edging up towards 4,000 posts.
Like others I met and chatted with him at home games. My understanding is he had retired only a few years ago and was now fully enjoying the cricket. I concur with others that Mike "was such a pleasant and affable person."
Very sad news indeed. He will be sorely missed.
RIP.

Dreadful news. I came to know and like Mike very much as a man and as a cricket-lover. As a contributor to this forum he did not exaggerate or make a fuss but he was determined and consistent in his arguments. I particularly like the epigraph to his comments "When my information changes, I alter my conclusions. What do you do, sir?" John Maynard Keynes". That illustrated his approach to life, logical and very human. I shall miss his company, though I had not seen him for some time. Thank you coolbox for letting us all know. My deep sympathy to his family.

I had hoped for the return of the deck chairs to the Cromwell Road end post T20, but this has not happened, so I'm just posting one photo of Mike's memorial bench with the plaque chosen by Mike's daughters, which reflects his keen interest in the messageboard.
