Bit unrealistic to call it an actual summer but there you go.
New long form coach who's never coached long form and has only just took his pads off.
New one-day coach who about 5% of Australian cricket fans have heard of, and I'd bet close to zero in England.
Still no Parkinson, which I find bewildering, and a very safe first pick side from coach and captain, which I puzzling.
Morgan's still in a job despite not warranting a place in the side for the last three years - the captain of the best T20 side in the world cant' even get an IPL contract.
To top it all off the new one-day coach starts his stint in a 3 game series against Holland. Yes, we're playing Holland. Let me know how Bas Zuiderent does cos I won't be watching. Why on earth would we ever play this lot?
I think for the first time ever, I'm not impressed.

NZ win the toss and nobody gives a s**t. They talk about an exciting team, little tip for ya - drop the woodpecker and play the leggie who actually turns it, then.
Cannot fathom Brook not playing either. I think England have replaced johnson with starmer.
Ultimately, they're both liberal.

Good to see the two elder statesmen back in the side and Jimmy justifying his place already with 2 early wickets.
I agree with liquid that Brooks should have played and Parkinson for Leach ( who’s just done himself a mischief fielding on the boundary and had to go off )

Leach withdrawn from the test match as showing signs of concussion. Could Parkinson get a late call up?

New Zealand are suffering as a result of their players playing micky mouse cricket in India.
Looking at the eleven playing only Henry, Nicholls and Wagner are missing from what I would regard as their best eleven players.

132 all out.
Good start for McCullum/Stokes.

£160 to watch 80 overs, rather than 90 overs, of test cricket.
England 7-41. Bairstow out cheaply. What do you expect when he play mickey mouse cricket in India? We should exclude IPL players from test selection? We are utter rubbish at test cricket.

The wheels on the bus go round and round. And then they fall off in very predictable circumstances. A fast game's an interesting game though.
Glad Parkinson is finally called up, albeit by default. If only these morons before him could have given him something to bowl at. Really hope he shows his skills, I think he's a top twirler me.
Really don't get the Root/Pope position thing. I thought Root had finally stepped up to this massive problem area but it seems he's wimped out again, leaving someone making his way in Tests who's never batted there before to pick up the pieces. It's a bad look.
I see nothing in Lees after several innings that I couldn't see in Burns and Sibley.

Twirler's had a twirl at last. Didn't twirl it much to be fair. Certainly a better prospect than the other dullards we have in that area.
Game on.

I expect New Zealand to make three changes. Nicholls for Young with Conway opening. Wagner and Henry for De Grandhomme and Patel. You cannot win a test match with three bowlers or when an opener gets 1 in both innings.

10,000 test match runs for Joe Root, that’s some achievement.
Always good to see an England win but some of the same batting woes at the top of the order remain. Get Haines in!

Any win is good, particularly after England’s recent outings. However, it was not a convincing win by any stretch of the imagination. It merely confirms that Anderson and Broad are good bowlers, Root can bat well and Stokes can turn a match. Well done, Foakes, today for protecting the lower order.

Top 3 a huge problem, as has been the case for ages. Middle order good, bowling good in England, huge problem abroad. Root should be at 3, why he's moved again I don't know but it's detrimental to the team. We'd still need a couple of openers though.

New Zealand have suffered a huge blow as Kane Williamson has been ruled out of the test match as a result of catching Covid.
My revised New Zealand XI would be Latham (c), Young, Conway, Nicholls, Mitchell, Blundell wk, Jamieson, Southee, Wagner, Henry and Boult.
