Yep, Rizwan scored 80 runs, the rest 70. Without him It would have been embarrassing. 🥴 An excellent replacement for Salt. More reliable and, hopefully, more consistent. He isn't Salt's replacement dum-dum. Do you know anything?

Walk in the park. 30 light, could have done with a boundary hitter at the end.
Despite Gordy's overblown and clearly biased defence of the team, this is our poorest T20 side in what... ever? Pretty much in keeping with the demise of the CC side. Your five year plan, that you're 5 years into, sucks Gordy. It needs to be binned along with Greenfield and Andrew. The new leaders will still need a gofer you know, you're job is safe.

Same old issues, wrong team, wrong balance, wrong order, terrible captain who simply doesn't warrant a place in the side and probably the most naïve thing of all, a team full of T20 'specialists' who come into the games with no form at all.
Carter & Orr in.

Was that the lowest ever attendance for a 20/20 Public are not idiots, Players like Jordon and Salt leaving and think £35 is one of highest charges. Maybe also some could still be upset by seeing club taking mick by charging £35 for NZ farce,

Only the first game with a number of new faces from last season, so too early to start pressing the panic button or as one or two are understandably doing given their frustrations with the Sussex management drawing very bleak conclusions.
Rizwan, clearly a class signing and without him this would have been over by half past eight tonight. Good bowling from Rawlins and Lenham. Don't forget we are also missing Archer and Hudson-Prentice.
On the half empty glass, we did look very disjointed and naïve particularly with our batting and rarely looked in any position to win the match. Some very poor shots by some of our batters and at least 30 light on a good wicket. The bowlers were on a hiding to nothing.
Ward is a gun fielder and he can give it a bash, but...selected ahead of Alsop (over 40 T20 games and three career fifties) and Ollie Carter (after his second XI performance earlier in the week), someone needs to explain the thinking behind that one!
Bopara looks a shadow of the player that used to dominate for Essex. Other than a handful of innings since he signed for Sussex, has certainly not provided the impetus that was no doubt expected. The jury is also still out on Finn, hopefully he stays fit.
We do need to be realistic. Whereas it was totally reasonable to expect a minimum of quarter final qualification over the last few seasons and hope for the required performance at the quarter final stage. Given the changes in personnel we may need to accept this season may be more of a challenge, but we need to compete far better than we did tonight.

Maybe also some could still be upset by seeing club taking mick by charging £35 for NZ farce, Wright gave up the captaincy because he could see the team was rubbish.Somerset charge £43. £35 to watch this rubbish is a joke. Crowd was 2,209.

Maybe also some could still be upset by seeing club taking mick by charging £35 for NZ farce, We look to be in a downward spiral, losing/letting good players go resulting in poor performances resulting in low crowd attendances resulting in parlous finances resulting in having to play more youth resulting in even poorer performances resulting in even lower crowds resulting in even worse finances resulting in…..well you get the picture. Hope I’m proved wrong.

The morning after and a reflection of last night.
The first game on a cold, cloudy evening in May will always attract the least number of people. The crowd numbers at the home Surrey match will be a better litmus test.
Being at the ground, the Sussex players appeared to trudge through rust. Poor shots and a team that hadn't woken up from winter hibernation.
Mills had a terrible game. His Dr Jekyl came to the fore. Where was the guile, his slow bouncer and trickery? He seemed a ghost of last season. All he did was bowl fast, a gift to the batsmen on this wicket.
Lenham and Rawlins, for me, stood above the rest. George had a stinker and Finn wasn't much better, although he did take the first wicket. When you're bowling against the class of Northeast and Labuschagne, you have to be at your best.
It was a doddle for Glamorgan. Surely, Sussex can only improve from here?

Wrong side. Batters need to show more intelligence. Ward might be a gun fielder, I'd rather him be an average batter. How can you get 1 run off the 17th over and then pinch the strike from Rizwan? That shows not game knowledge. Another top signing! Alsop to play. Crowd, wow! Worst I've seen. Atmosphere? None whatsoever. What has been going on to market the game(s)? Perhaps a cold Thursday in May is not the best day? Let's see what happens at Bristol.

Any thoughts on Bopara’s captaincy?
I thought his body language was terrible for the most part, looked totally uninterested, no energy in the field at all.
It’s a shame Rizwan isn’t around for the whole campaign as he looked more than happy to do the job.

Glad you finally acknowledge the decimation of our squad Andy - Salt, Jordan, Wiese, Briggs and Evans going is bound to weaken us and surely can’t represent some sort of plan nor be seen in any sort of positive light, but yes, a good side in spite of that. Would you rather have Wiese or Rizwan? Salt was offered money you'd find eye watering but he wanted to go.

I’d sooner have Salt and Wiese or similar, instead of using an overseas spot to replace a domestic player, meaning the other one can’t come back or be replaced.
Ask yourself why Salt wanted to go…

I couldn't agree more. Rizwan stood out by a mile. Energetic, chirpy, enthusiastic, excited, the others in the field were comatose in comparison.
Bopara lost interest after the filth Mills and Garton bowled. Can you blame him? He is not a captain. Period.
